Whats wrong with my mouse?
« on: November 23, 2008, 05:31:31 am »

I don't know why, but my mouse has been acting up lately. i have INCREDIBLE difficulty highlighting anything. sometimes clicking once seems to make my computer think i'm clicking twice or three times (thereby highlighting things i don't mean to highlight), and holding the mouse button down seems to make my computer think that i'm clicking VERY fast. what the heck is wrong with it?

yah, i know this is the DF forum, but i don't wanna search for a real help forum when i got you guys.

Go to wal-mart and pick up a cheap 15 dollar mouse?

(?)Post in the Various nonsense forums instead.
(?)Check your PC for Virus threat.
(?)Reinstall mouse drivers.
(?)Replace the mouse with another one and check it's work.
(?)Make a temporary system restore to the previous state.

Which option hasn't you tried yet?

It's a problem with the mouse button.  It might just be dust so try blowing it out.  If that doesn't fix it, it's broken and you need a new mouse.  Mine (a Razer Copperhead) did the first last year, and now it's doing the second.

Hah, after giving my mouse CPR through the small opening in the side, its returned to normal. thanks footkerchief.

Yeah, typical mouse button problem. I guess I can safely say that chaoticjosh is not an experienced FPS gamer.  ;D

what a great inference, i barely even touch'em.

the problem keeps coming back though, and the cpr treatment needs to be repeated, so i'm not sure how much frickin' dust must be in their or what it's doing, but it's annoying.

Hehe yeah...I was an FPS addict back to the CoD1 days, and I wasted a couple of mouses...er mouse buttons.  ;D
If cleaning the mouse button won't solve the problem, you will have to buy a new mouse. My current mouse is pretty good and comfortable. It is a MS/Razer HABU. [Razer tech and MS "body".]  It's also excellent for FPS gaming even, because of the decent 2000dpi laser.
If you want to buy a very durable and excellent mouse, you should consider buying a HABU. You won't be disappointed.  :)

Just be aware that the mouse is light as a feather. Enough to be lifted up by its own cable, if it's curled. If you prefer your mice to have some weight, you'll hate this one. Also not to underestimate are the sharp edges at the front of the mouse buttons that can get very irritating if you often keep your hand in a forward position.

Not really, HABU's weight is just perfectly balanced. Also you won't touch those sharp edges ever...in fact they are not even sharp, I've just "tested" it. See? I haven't touched them so far.  ;D

In this country, finding a mouse with DPI over 800 is heavenly. When I found the Habu Razor I simply HAD to buy it. It costs a hefty sum here. $88.

It was also the last one left in stock. Go figure.

Anyway, that thing is epic and worth every penny. Even though you'll use less pennies than me. The weight is perfect. The shape is perfect. The buttons are perfect. The cleaning is easy and simple. You get two different side panels for the side buttons that you can interchange any time for comfort. The thing has a glowpipe which is there for the rule of cool. Sensitivity can be adjusted on the fly with the press of a button. It has 5 profiles that you can change between by pressing a button on the underside of the mouse. The profile options include the polling rate and DPI as far as I can tell. Did I mention it also has it's own firmware? A mouse with firmware. Ain't that amazing? You can take it from any computer and plug it into another and the settings stay the same.

Oh and for more rule of cool, the USB is gold plated. I don't know if it's real gold... But it ought to be.
