Go beat up a million fish.

Provided you don't have a world with freezing water, and you can swim, there's a nigh-unlimited source of large critters to slaughter in every river.

Caution is advised. Multiple sturgeons hurt.

I was going to suggest the same thing as Logical2u.

Slaughtering masses of fish is fun and useful, as long as your adventurer is ready to take them on. You may have to improve your swimming skill before you can keep up with all the fish that try to escape, though. Fortunately, if you're in a river, you'll have a good chance of being able to find them again.

Spoiler: Lookit all the fish. (click to show/hide)

Normal fish run away.
Find a haunted river, with skeletal fish that come to you. It cannot fail.

I wish carp were as deadly in Adventurer mode as they were in Fortress.

carp are so deadly because a dwarf will be an idiot and try to fish for one without realizing hes getting himself killed.

No, carp are deadly because noobie wrestlers will dodge into holes, and 99% of your dwarfs will lack any swimming skill, and any water over 4/7 is lethal (ie, drowning death) to someone without novice swimmer, I believe.

Carp also attack in swarms, when ready.

I will agree with the sturgeon warning, though. They've killed a few adventurers, ripped out some eyes...
