If you want even more epic FPS, turn off cave-ins.  Do it.  Now.  Fuck weather and temperature.  Cave-ins is where the magic happens.

Partial print raised my FPS dramatically, but disabling cave-ins lets my >200 dwarf fort run at 40-60 FPS.

My init.txt doesn't have any "partial" string anywhere in it, and only one instance of "print" under display length. "If MORE is set to NO, all announcements will be skipped.  DISPLAY_LENGTH controls how many lines are printed before it gives you the "more" prompt."

Do I just have to add the line [PARTIAL_PRINT:YES:2] to the end of the txt file?

Err, I'm using 40d_s, with my init.txt copied over from 40c_s so I wouldn't have to re-tweak the thing, but I thought partial_print was added in with 40a. Any one know?

edit2: I tried putting [PARTIAL_PRINT:YES:2] into my game and it dropped from 60 fps to 25 fps. Might need to reinstall process explorer to disable the second core, that seems to make the game run better, anyway.

It hasn't helped mine by a single FPS.  Perhaps your fort had some particularly adventurous architecture?

Which version do you use? It HAS to be there.

There's no S in the DF version numbers.
Get the real game.

Alright, since some people are getting complaining about it, I'll change the title. And turning off cave ins helped my FPS. Thanks, Earthquake.

Also, I now have a mortal grudge on Mithaldu. A mortal one.

Partial print did absolutely nothing noteworthy to my FPS. Nor does cave-ins.

Kind of ironic that a guy named earthquake would suggest turning cave-ins off.

You better get in line, kid.

Also, to people having problems with partial print: Adjust the number upwards. I've read about people having success with it set to 100.

Under the guys of partial print, my FPS has been fluctuating too much for me to tell if there has been a huge improvement.

It's not in the version numbers, but it is appended to the end of the file name of the "no music" downloads. I assume it means "small" because of the smaller file size.

I wonder if the type of architecture you have affects whether turning off caveins will help your FPS? Like, if it's always having to check for things that might cave in?
