How do I stop my guys from wrestling while armed?

Also, the offender in question is wielding his hammer AND shield in his right hand, despite all my protests. Any fixes here?

They've got things in their hands right? like clothes or so.
I made a thread bout crossbows with the same problem but it seem the only way to get rid of the stuff in their hands is by using companion - though i've not tried it yet.

Though. it's possible that they will wrestle anyways. just remembered that my fresh recruits ignored their crossbows too.

I haven't seen this problem, but you could try to forbid all of their held items, switch their weapon prefs to something two-handed (battle axe? spear?) with no shield, and then unforbid only the weapons you want them to carry before switching weapon prefs again.  So:

(U)nits - Urist McAmbidextrous - (i)nventory - pig tail sock - (f)orbid
(m)ilitary - Squad, the Overburdened Hands - (w)eapons - spears
...
unpause for a few time-steps
...
(Z)tatus - Stocks - Weapons - (f)orbid like crazy, leaving the desired weapons available

...
unpause

Does not work, the item they hold is Owned and thus cannot be designated for dumping or forbidden.
And considering they can wear shields and a weapon they still insist on wrestling

i always thought that was really realistic, cause in my mind, i imagine ALL close range fighting to involve hand-to-hand combat in some subtle way, and so wrestling gets some minor experience.

Well that could have been the case. If they actually practiced archery at all wich they don't.

If the items are Owned, you might be able to convince them to put spare items in storage if you gave them enough cabinets/coffers.  Are they sleeping in bedrooms, or barracks?

Try undesignating the barracks. They might be too busy sparring to actually put their stuff up/dump it.

That did not work either because the items are Owned by another dwarf that got ripped during wrestling.

Do you have any bone/wood bolts made? Dwarves won't used anything else to practice.

Also, one of my champions is wearing greaves on his arms instead of gauntlets...

how many wrestlers do you have? what I'm saying is put all the wrestlers on duty so only weapon dwarves are left. cause when grappled wrestling gets you freed.

I used to have problems like this a lot when I trained my dwarves in wrestling before marks.  They just seem to love to rip off random pieces of clothing and beat people with them until their dying breath.

Imagine it, Urist McWrestler is dying slowly of old age on his bed.  He bids fond farewells to all his little Mcwrestlers and as he slowly passes..... finally drops the damn shoe he beat seven goblins to death with.

Then if your lucky the owner (if still alive) will come back and pick the damn thing up.

Seriously though, I had some success marking items for dumping.  The real trick is figuring out what is theirs and what belongs to their victim.
