Heres an idea: Inter-player cooperation/teams.

2 Players make a deal that they split the winnings, and in turn they help each other.


Maybe an "endurance race" where the dangers are much more deadly, the race is much longer, and there are only 2 prizes: first place, and you survived, both quite high. The point would be to encourage teamwork, either with everyone, or with the people guarenteed not to win, since the goal is survival, so everyone would get the same prize(except the guy who came in first)

sorry for the double post, but I have another suggestion. The Arena. In this the cars go head to head to be the last surviving racer. The winnings are huge, and everyone gets some money. If your car is 'indecapitated' eg. wheels destroyed, engine destroyed, racer injured, then you are out of the competition. Unless you want a to-the-death fight.
