How much do the repairs cost? Sorry, missed the update in the part section.

I spend 100☼ on the repairs (not full repairs, but double basic repairs, to remove the -1 to def first, and remove -1 cornering second).

I also buy a ballista (500☼) and hire a gunnerdwarf (500☼). I have 150☼ left.

And I paint my car with elf blood! After that, I make an image of a dwarf on the left side of the car (I make it with charcoal from my furnace).

And I'm simply going to end the race,from now on later races will be closed after 1st 2nd and 3rd places are assigned.

Ringed Iron Armor with the Streamlining package, a small cage trap, and repair my engine.  Should have 100☼ left over.

Cancel buying that rope, anchor and cage trap. I have 500db, right? 250db from picking it up, 250db from not being last.
I will buy ringed iron, selling my previous armour and buy 1 cage trap.

Since I won't have the cash for repairs, I will get together with my dwarf buddy and try to fix things myself.
All the while grumbling about sixes and ones...(a failure for repair and a crashing overshot fo going faster is not the best way to lose. If I had somehow bent space in a way that destroyed my stuff, THAT would have been a fun way to lose)
