Even bigger area building!

Simple thing, really.  I'm very happy that constructions like floors, walls and stairs can now be designated over an area to make things quicker.

Suggestion: increase the area even more.  Something like 30 squares.

Yeah, I'd probably use this.  Also two other things:
a) "Cancel construction" designation, so that if you make a mistake you don't have to 'q' over each one
b) Consistent accessibility checks.  Currently, if you're building a 2x1 raised platform hanging off some stairs like this:

The game will let you mark both floor tiles at once, but if you just mark the one closest to the stairs, you can't mark the second floor until the first one has been built.

And also fix building logic so edges of raised walls don't get out of reach (ie always build the most remote hardest reachable location first so it does not get isolated!).

Why bother?  Why not just let people designate whereever they wanted and then not be able to get the site?

Flying critters could get there and build an unsupported floor, so nevermind...

Flying critters could get there and build an unsupported floor, so nevermind...

Support checks could be added and done before actually building.

I think I'm gonna be doing some modding tonight!   :D

Better yet: flying everything.  Zero-gee!  Now you actually have to defend in three dimensions.

In the same spirit as the accessibility check, it would be nice if dwarves didn't trap themselves anymore. The whole side preference thing is annoying too. I hate it when dwarves run all the way around the fort to do something from a different side.

Instead, when you set an area for construction, say 10x10, it will simply build any green markers that come up. Red markers will simply not get built.

There are many, many times when I have to go through and designate a construction 1 or 2 tiles at a time because of the odd shapes of my buildings. Blanket-designating over previously built constructions would be a life saver, and not terribly difficult I imagine.

That being said, I do think the current accessibility method is the best. It allows you to build out floors easily without a huge (tremendous) hassle. And since if you build something in the middle of the sky there is no path to it, it would be impossible to assign any materials to build it, so the designation naturally can't finish.

Given that creatures can't FLY and MINE at the same time, I foresee "cancel: dangerous terrain" messages.
