I must have gotten a good night's sleep last night because for the first time since I started working on LCS in May 2007, I realized I could fix the text on the map persisting display bug with a minimum of effort.

Quick question. Does this bother anyone?

It doesn't really matter, since the game won't look like that (it will do the current behavior of blanking the map on the right rather than displaying it under full wide menus), but I'm just curious.

This is a -text-based display-.  It could be a +text-based display+.

It won't keep me up at night, but it does look pretty shoddy.

It's not a priority in my mind but if you had nothing better to do, why not?

The only thing that bothers me right now is probably the whole "you can't see all the levels of your skills" bit. Otherwise it's fantastic! Been playing sneakily. If you want a guide to quick, semi-legal cash (even more than you would with the protection racket, and far safer), click the spoiler.

I would however suggest reconsideration of the whole "selling t-shirts" thing. Maybe it would be more of a business venture than something demanding garment making skill?

If this progress keeps up, this game may very well fall into my top 5 games ever.

I'm not sure I follow. Could you explain what you mean?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

What I was thinking was making the business skill determine how many t-shirts you can sell in a day, and garment making deciding how many you can MAKE in a day - then again, this is STILL kind of redundant, and one might as well sell lemonade.

If I am making no sense, I apologise. I'm somewhat tired, and for some reason things seem to be "zooming out". Not a good sign for the coherence of my posts. Hopefully this clarifies some?

You don't need to spend years teaching your garment makers.  Hunt around in upperscale neighborhoods and you can find clothing designers who already have massive skill.

But if you want the REAL moneymaker:

I don't like trading RL time for gametime. Besides; you can find reasonably high-levelled garment makers in factories if you're lucky, or by picking up fashion designers. It's really not that time-demanding. Took me around two months to get my guys up to level 9 (and I was using them to fund my operation WHILE I did it). Your way seems a bit ... boring. I tried it once, and almost killed myself out of annoyance ;_;

Yeah, I don't use that too often, just when I want to throw some cash together fast.  Mostly I just do legal fundraising during my year and a half hibernation between elections.

Edit:
I'm not a fan of repairing clothes being skill based.  It's an annoying amount of micromanagement to stip my liberals down, hand the uniform over etc. all in the middle of what I was busy with at the time.  Could you either make it so repair doesn't require skill or make it so that failure doesn't ruin the clothes but instead just results in no progress as you "spend all day tearing out your amaturish stitching"?

My way basically provides you with an endless supply of cash, though. You only need three people to do it, and they're not doing anything illegal, so you can just keep them isolated from the "baddies" and let them sit there. Besides, it's not like you can't train your other people WHILE you are setting up the garmenters. For me it's just a great way to fund covert ops' and thug squads.

I have to agree mainac. Its annoying seeing half my army body armor go to horrible quality because some of my skill 1 guys decided to repair instead of the higher skill ones.

After successfully brainwashing a person, it still displays: "Tending to [blanky]". It's a minor thing, since I can just change my Action. Annoying bug regardless.

Yeah, I agree. It was originally a bug that made it not skill based, but by the time I fixed that bug we already had automatic self-repair of your own clothes when idle, which makes this a major pain. I've gone ahead with your second option -- a failed repair role will just not repair it, instead of damaging it permanently.

I just gained interrogation skill from tampering with a jury's deliberations.  Guess I really grilled the room.
