Highest FPS?
« on: November 16, 2008, 07:35:08 pm »

What's the highest FPS you've gotten your game to run at while in-game? (Menus don't count.)

So far sitting still I've been able to get my FPS up to 200. Anyone gotten higher?

I'm more concerned how i can keep it up during extended playtime.
It's not like anything above 50 matters.

If you expect to keep >50 FPS and build any sort of large, long-lived fort... um, good luck. I hope you're running on a supercomputer..

Well, I've just tested it right now without FPS CAP. [I am playing with FPS CAP 60 all the time, because I find that the best...]
Right after embarking, my FPS is between 1000 and 1200 [6x6 area with river].

I was just curious to see what impressive numbers people can come up with.

(Like Tormy's. That's...a shitload. Haha.)

My FPS cap is 500. That's where it tends to start (on a region of size somewhere between 3x3 and 5x5), so probably a bit higher than that, although after the first year it starts to steadily decrease.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

I think I saw a 4 in there once...

just over 80 on a 4x4 map with no z levels.  Capped at 50 so that it doesn't move around though.

Yeah. I can get over 200 on a 4*4 area right after embark. It drops to about 15-20 once i start digging out 25000 tile tree farms though. That's only on a shitty intel 2180 though.

on a 3x3 flat start area, no wild animals, temp and weather off, no running water, just the starting 7 dwarves I can pull maybe 350  or so IIRC.

I have my cap set to 500 and I never it it (except on menus of course).

My FPS usually starts out around 600, then slowly drops down to 50-60 as my fort grows. It works out well, because then you can do all the tedious initial mining and hauling very quickly, then it slows down as you have more and more tasks you need to keep track of, so it usually balances out for me.

Setting my cap to 2000 gets me about 1200-1300 paused on an embarked map with a river.

Gets me about 300 when everything is moving.

I have about 2000 when I embark and around 400 if it's in a good mood.

Or maybe a mechanic, if given enough time to prepare.

Pretty neat. Care to post your comp specs? [CPU/Mobo at least]

This begs the question of how much people have overclocked their systems to handle Dwarf Fortress.
