I have the latest version and my game froze when trying to build the road. I assume I put that into biy_glossary, with the other building items.

Well, you were right. Serves me right for posting before personaly double checking. It works however, the game just doesn't like for some reason for the recipe to be at the end of the list. If you insert it, say above Shelter recipe in the biy_glossary.txt it works. I have just tested several combinations. I have even thought of a slightly improved recipe for added flavor  ;D

.Road.    -R-     *BUILDING*   /20/
{Stone} (6) [remove] [ground]
{Rock} (10) [remove]
{Shovel} '+to level the ground'

I have tracking 95 and for some reason I have yet to find any tracks. The only time I find them is when I already have been chasing a an animal all over a map tile (and sometimes not even then). In fact, there's only one place where I can consistently find the same old bear tracks that I've built a shelter over, so I can finish the "basic adventure".

At the moment the tracks are left only by the biggest animals(deer, elk, stag, bear) during the spring - summer - autumn , because all the smaller animals are just too light to disturb the ground in any meaningful manner. In the winter, you can track even squirrels  on the soft snow. Tracking is getting an overhaul in the next patch, making it more interesting and useful.

Whoa I didn't even think about using fur for ropes.
STOP! don't do that! make cords, not ropes, they're in the utility articles menu and are magnitudes cheaper. the only thing you need ropes for is to construct rafts and leash animals, and when buying an animal you're always given a free rope

You don't even need them for rafts, I just made a network of rafts all over Finland for my shallow water cruising pleasure ... and definitely didn't use ropes.

i could swear you needed ropes, i remember the one time i ever made ropes was when i was trying to make a raft and it wasn't accepting cords.
i'll test that in game, brb
E:you're right, it does accept cords...  weird. it probably shouldn't, though, or at least require much more cords

I recently bought this game and am having a blast with it. Since I bought it, a new version was released so I am of thinking of grabbing the new version. I love playing the hurt, helpless, and afraid scenario with some self-imposed rules.

Anyway, to the point of my post:

I just saw the Real Unreal World: http://news.yahoo.com/mountain-man-scares-owners-remote-utah-cabins-090722480.html, at least the modern day incarnation. Pretty badass, the dude is wintering where snow can get up to ten feet and they cannot catch him.
