Is this a pond or an actual body of water?  Big lakes, rivers, and the ocean produce fish for certain, with rapids producing LOADS of fish.  Those little puddles in open mires don't count, and those little one tile ponds likely don't either.

It may seem like it's tough to survive away from water, but historically (and currently) towns are built near water.  There's a reason it's vital.

How do I fish with the nets and fishing rod?

With the net, you cast it and leave it for a day or two.  With the rod, you actively fish.  Hit shift+s or alt+g to access the skills.

Just figured it out. Do I have to trade for an axe or is it craftable?

You can craft a stone axe, the rest you must buy.

Indeed, however this is still the greatest modern 'roguelike' there is. Barring none. I like the additional challenge of having to find a town for trade etc.

<3 unreal world :D

If you could build your own town it'd be perfect, and set up your own damn smithies and get your own axes!  And then dwarven axe legions.

You can always mod the game to be able to craft items.

Making new items is still not available though.

I would get the lifetime version of this game...
... except that it is 55 dollars!
That is a little bit of a price jump. Think I'm going to go with major.

Same, at this point I feel the lifetime is too pricey. I feel development may be lessening from now. It's essentially a finished product, the only real thing people could want is the forging metal weapons etc

There's still plenty of ways to expand the game, namely having NPC that work for you long-term, with things like farming, fishing, hunting, and also making sure they all can eat and be clothed.  In other words, found your own village, or at least your own little family.

a bit weird that we can tan skins, farm fields, build a cellar and wooden building... but we cant tie together a bunch of cords and ropes and sticks to make a net.

i guess its probably a balance issue that we cant make tons of nets ourself to "get food for no work", but instead have to trade for them.

Well, you can already start out as a fisher, giving you like 2 nets.
