Um, where can I put meat where it won't go away? When I roast a bunch of meat and drop it on my shelter square after like a day it just vanishes.

That's unusual, that's either a bug or somehow an animal's coming in and filching everything.
Did you actually check the square your shelter is on? It may be hiding behind the sprite.

A cellar is the best spot to store food, since it slow spoilage.

'w'ield a bow, then 't'hrow an arrow (out of your inventory).

A bit silly but thats the way it does it ...

Use M for make, then 3 for traps, then R to reset. Then select the direction of the trap. It works to reset all the built traps.

Another useful trick is use kick (0 key) to safely set off a trap if you need to walk past it or into it for some reason without getting hurt, then you can just reset it to fix it afterwards. This even works on the ones with sharp stakes. I once made a wall of spiked pit traps around my settlement and just kicked and reset it on leaving or entering. A few months later I came home to find a bunch of dead foreign traders in my pits. Heh heh...

That's weird about your meat going away though. I've never had that happen. Is it in a village? If so there might be one villager left somewhere that keeps stealing it.

All this talk of crashing is strange to me too... I have never, ever, ever had a crash with URW - and I've played it on and off for years on 4 different computers.

If you're near a village it could be villagers stealing it and wandering off with it. In an older version I once came back and found a trapper wandering around near my house loaded down with several hundred pounds of dried meat taken from my cellar.

Heh, back in an old version when creatures still spawned randomly in places I once had a npc spawn inside my house, grab a bunch of my stuff (nets, tools, food, furs, etc) then wander off and die in one of my pit traps (house was surrounded with them). I found the npc dead in the pit trap loaded down with all my stuff.

What are the new features in the version that would make it worth buying from 3.11?

It's been over a year of pretty constant development so it's a big jump, with many fixes and added features: http://www.jmp.fi/~smaarane/urw312_news.txt

The most noteworthy would be the worldgen. It's the entire peninsula thingy now (instead of asking if you want islands or northern) and it has elevation and stuff.

Also, actual Njerpez villages so that you can ravish and murdalize their women in retaliation for their attacks.

The rest is mostly fixes and tweaks, such as villagers that get pissed when you burn their houses down or chop their trees or jaywalk.
