EDIT: I don't take pictures because between the settings on the game's fullscreen mode and my lack of appropriate screencap software, my screencapture process goes like this:
1. hit F11
2. hit printscreen
3. hit F11 again
4. open up MS paint
5. paste
6. copy the part that's the actual game
7. open another MS paint window and hit paste again
8. save
9.repeat several times if somthing interesting is happening.
10. host
11. link
12. Realize it took maybe 15 min just to take 5 pictures and longer to host
That's what I was doing for mine, though I run in large (double standard) window mode.
I also remember turning on forbidding everything on death (to prevent civilians from charging into the deathtrap), so you might want to make sure that you don't have all the armor forbidden in the death corridor or something. Melee dwarves without armor and shields are extremely squishy, but I should have made enough chainmail + iron shields for everyone to have a set, especially if they have been dying off.
Your marksdwarves should be able to out-marks the orcs from the fortifications and towers, too, and melee dwarves should be able to engage them in the lower deathtrap corridor (since they will never be at range. It's a multi-purpose deathtrap!).
It sounds like you might want to just spend a bit of time training a new batch of military, though.
