22 slate

I had the wonderful idea of using the dragon as a first line of defense. Unfortunately, I was unable to move the cage up, and the dragon escaped while being transferred. Time to move out the military.

Second entry

That went easier than expected.
The marksdwarves and wrestlers took him down quickly and easily, losing only a leopard. How he missed so very badly with dragonfire i have no idea.

OOC: I recorded a movie, but hit the wrong button while saving it and somehow recorded another movie over it.

3rd felsite

The battlement construction project has gone reasonably well, and I’ve expanded the area I’m covering with it.

In less fortunate news, the mayor is still demanding pig iron items. Also, I can’t figure out how exactly the “bath” system refill works.

4th felsite

Seems a wrestler got his lower torso and legs mangled. Probably fighting the dragon. And an imprisoned dwarf died of dehydration.

11th felsite

Seems an elf wants to talk to the count, having shown up last year or something. He’s remarkably patient.

13th felsite

Huh, the countess is  wounded too.

In news not reeking of unfortante accidents, we’re about to have an arena fight!

(There were problems with the recording, mostly because I suck at using the note system, but I’m putting it up anyways.)

http://www.mkv25.net/dfma/movie-1029-arenafight

That went okay, but we lost one to friendly fire.

23rd felsite

A child starved to death today. It seems he got wounded at some point and no one bothered to help him. He just lay there screaming in pain for months while no one help him in the center of the fort.

27th felsite

Defensive planning and the construction of a wall for the melee team to hide behind until required has begun, and the main gate roofworks have been completed. Now to make some forward watchtowers.

2nd hematite

Due to the likely rapidly approaching orc attack, the melee squad has begun mace training. Normally, I’d like them to become masters at wrestling first, but sadly this fortress has no time for such luxuries as safety for the meatshield. Also, the melee squad is now four strong, one having been transferred to the crossbow squad due to a spinal wound. I might just have to recruit and train the fishing industry to bulk out the numbers if we receive no migrants.

5th hematite

We now have a zinc ore vein located, and some gems

TELL ME WHEN YOU HIT FLUX OR IRON, IDIOTS!

7th hematite

Joy, more zinc. And beatings! I’m so excited.

Having gotten bored of waiting for someone to make armor, I tried to track down the armorsmith. Operative word is “tried.” Seems we don’t have an armorsmith.

11th hematite

A diplomat has come and is laying siege to the count.

Oh, hey, goblins.

EDIT: I'm done with the battle, but i'm going to leave you in suspense until tomorrow.

Ah damn, the best marksdwarf died.   :(

Anyway, GOBLINS!!

EDIT: Also, the area you live in has only zinc, so don't be aspecting anything else.

Hey, it's tomorrow now!

11th hematite

The diplomat is so very boned.

http://www.mkv25.net/dfma/movie-1030-diplomatvsgoblins

5 squads

Squad 1: human guard with hammer, 6 hammergoblins, 9 wrestlers.

Squad 2: 1 human guard with pike, 7 swordsgoblins, 8 wrestlergoblins
Squad 3: 1 goblin guard with two-handed sword, 7 macegoblins, 8 wrestlers.

Squad 4: 1 human pikeman, 9 goblin axemen, 4 wrestlers

Squad 5 is actually close to squad 1, but was counted last.

1 pike guard, 7 crossbow goblins, 8 wrestler goblins.

Total: 79 goblins.

Something about that number seems odd.

First blood is the human guard who is stupid enough to leave his squad behind.

He ran through the traps, took a bolt in the eyes, and was bludgeoned into unconsciousness and a cage trap by the wrestler turned marksdwarf.

Next up was the rest of squad 2, who didn’t dodge the weapon traps.

SHUT UP ABOUT YOUR ARMOK-CURSED GEMS, I’M LEADING A BATTLE HERE, YOU PICK-SWINGING MORONS!

http://www.mkv25.net/dfma/movie-1031-79oddgoblinseige

Squad 1 was next into the meatgrinder, nearly followed by squads 3 and 5.

19th hematite

I’m going to strangle the miners with their picks if they don’t stop barging in to announce that they’ve struck uselessites every two days.

24th hematite

Urge to strangle rising.

However, news that the watchtower ground floor was almost complete lightened my mood.

I also decided to draft the fishing industry today.

25th hematite

A child has gone fey.

EDIT: Actually, according to the wiki, i could theoretically strike tin and tetrahedrite.

And seriously, the miners are beginning to piss me off.

You're building too much on the surface. That is not very dwarfish. >:(
Your father should be ashamed. Sarcasm about the father.
Build an archery range for the marksdwarves so the orcs wont kill them while they practice with the orcs.

Building on the surface is fine with me.  It's not Dwarfish, what about those huge towers people build, that's dwarfish.  Keep the miners alive, we have 5 and 3 are legendary last check.  You don't know when we'll really need them.

Also, nice update!!

Ultra-Towerdude, would you like to play next year?  As long as you don't get everybody killed I'll be happy.  Maybe you could build some dwarven underground palace.

I'm kidding about killing the miners, really. It's just annoying to have that happen THREE TIMES during a seige.

It seems that the layer of silty clay directly below the layer of peat is also an aquafier, except not at the part where we have the staircase.

I'd like to thank this thread for teaching me about the snipping tool. Thanks Deathquest! I really should catch up on it.
