DFG15 celebration
« on: November 16, 2008, 02:28:26 pm »

Greetings, fellow Bloodgods. You may know me as the maintainer of the body of work and plagiarism known as DFG aka the Mike Mayday combined pack aka the May Green set.

I've spent quite a lot of time tweaking it all, and I think I've pushed DF to the limits of how much graphics it can contain. The tileset is still butt-ugly, but hopefully more readable to people with ASCIIphobia. I've also tried to expand on the punctuation-friendly edition (as I too was getting tired with the messed up text). There are now four versions (MIN, MED, MIX and MAX).

I invite you all to check it out, all criticism is welcome. As far as editing the tileset goes, I think I'll be calling it a day. There are, of course, still quite a few graphic-less creatures left (mostly underwater ones though).
Without further ado: here it is.

And here are some screenshots for those interested:

A fortress entrance: MED MAX
Living quarters: MED MAX
A blue jay flying over a valley:  MED MAX
Shopping for food: MED MAX
Messed up / not messed up text: MED MAX

Mmm, flavahs.  Nice.  I dunno whether the punctuation is important enough to put up with the dots, but both bug me a little bit, so I'll have to make my choice...  I'll probably simply accept the existence of the dots.  Will floor tiles or smoothed stone replace the dots with the floor texture or no?

EDIT:  Nevermind, saw that it does.  My tower probably wouldn't even notice the dots.  APPROVED.

EDIT:  AND you included Manager?

...I love you Mike.

I was going to say you're welcome to incorporate the Kobold pack, since more aesthetically-complete kobolds would benefit even those not playing AS them, and you're more than welcome to incorporate them. I'd be quite flattered.
But then I saw you threw in some new kobolds in your own style, so I guess you've got that covered.

Great work as always. Still my graphics pack of choice.

Fixed. Directly copied from his set.

I haven't actually seen kobold camp before you've posted this, so I might actually make use of your work... after perverting it to suit my needs of course.

By all means, I created it so people could use it.
The luchador wrestlers might be a little much but other than that, if nothing else at least adventure mode would benefit from having their jobs illustrated.

To hell with your opinion!  All wrestlers should wear masks and have names like El Hombre Magnifico or whatever.  I demand it!

Well I agree, seeing as how I DREW THEM THAT WAY. I'm just saying it might not fit the pack stylistically.

I haven't seen the relevant thread.  Regardless, don't take my post as an attack.  Maybe I should've thrown in a :P or something after that first sentence.

Ok, it's time to ask; What does Toady One think of these Kobolds? are they the official Three Toe's Imagination Approved Armokverse Kobolds?

Toady's Kobold Quest had a very different version of Kobolds. These aren't visually similar in a lot of ways. They're simplified, made cute, and a different color entirely.

I thought that was a bowkobold preparing to fire a carp at an unsuspecting dwarf before I realized that was actually a fishing pole he was holding.

heh, THIS is the Dwarf Fortress pack that got me into the game (I just can't keep up with plain C[olor]ASCII - I'll blame my ADHD for that <.<; )

I'm grabbing it and I'll look at it later (finishing up a few tweaks to my foxy civilization and then I'll dump the stuff into the new folder)
