Got me from 6-7 fps to 12-16 fps on my EEE PC, which is a pretty major difference.  I generally play on my desktop but sometimes the spousal unit requires me to be in another room for some amount of time, and being able to play on the laptop is made a lot nicer by this utility.  Thanks a bunch!

I'd love to try this out, but every time I try the link I get a "Connection Interrupted" error.  Couldn't find it anywhere on the File Depot, either.

Granted, I'm in South Korea and that causes problems with some websites.  Any other link I could try?  My laptop is barely keeping up with a pop cap of 50.

You'll just have to try it again. It's hosted off my DSL connection, which is sometimes unreliable, but it's working most of the time.

Running on a MacBook here (Intel 2GHZ, 2 GB RAM, Mac Os X 10.4.x Tiger), and this is the result:

Code: [Select]
./run.sh
dyld: could not load inserted library: opengl.dyld

./run.sh: line 4:   238 Trace/BPT trap          Dwarf\ Fortress.app/Contents/MacOS/Dwarf\ Fortress

Any ideas? I am trying compiling from sources right now, will update the post with results.

EDIT: It seems that compiling this requires Xcode 3.1, which is Leopard only. Can you provide a tiger build of the library? I would really like avoiding fixing the code so that it builds with my xcode 2.x ...

Well, basically.. no, I can't. I wouldn't know where to start.

It should be fairly simple to compile it on Tiger, though. I'm not aware of its using anything that was introduced in Leopard.

Looking at your Makefile, it is pretty obvious that in leopard Xcode started using the LLVM:
Code: [Select]
opengl.dyld: mac_wrapper.bc shim.bc
rm -f opengl.s opengl.o
llvm-ld -r -o=opengl.bc -v -stats -S mac_wrapper.bc shim.bc
llc --enable-unsafe-fp-math --stats opengl.bc -o opengl.s
gcc opengl.s -c -o opengl.o
libtool -dynamic -o opengl.dyld -compatibility_version 2.0.0 \
-current_version 2.0.0 -lc -init _init -read_only_relocs suppress \
-framework OpenGL \
opengl.o
        ...

all of the llvm-gcc, llc & similar friends are all part of the LLVM toolchain, that is present in xcode 3.1 but not in the previous ones.

Could you check the compiler options, to see if you can just emit a standard Makefile? In the meantime I'll try my hands on this thing...

Er, actually I wrote that by hand.
I also installed LLVM by hand; it may be part of Leopard, but not the llvm-gcc toolkit, I don't think.

If you look back through the darcs history, you should be able to find a makefile that doesn't use it.

So I just installed this, loaded up DF, and was pleased to see my FPS rockets towards the cap. Thank you very much, sir, you've done a great service to DF players.

Hey, i discovered df a month or so ago, and i came across this. Thought i would give it a try, and df is pretty taxing on my 6 year old computer (100% cpu usage etc)

I've Downloaded the dll, and followed all instructions carefully, but i seem to be having a problem.

As soon as i go past the title screen, the whole screen and graphics seem to mess up. Here is a screen shot:

(i am running in fullscreen, at 1024x768, the image is cropped)

my specs:

p4, 2.3 ghz, 256 mgb of ram.
Graphics card: 16 MB ati rage 128 ultra
Using a 16x16 tileset. The mike mayday one.

i can also post my init settings as well, if you require them.

Thanks.

That GPU is.. beyond ancient. Rage 128? ???

Get a newer one. Even a $50 one would be a hundredfold improvement.

I love the 2GHz+ machine with a Rage 128!  Epic in so many ways.

Edit:  Eek... I was thinking of the old 3D Rage cards from my Pentium 133 days... the 128 was later on.  /hides

A P4 2Ghz with 256 RAM and a Rage 128?  Holy cow, who built that thing for you?

I would, but i'm getting a new pc in a short while, so i don't think it's economical.

Does this mean my graphics card is causing the problem and i can't use dwarf accelerator with it?

And yes, it is  very ancient. i don't think you can even buy one anymore :(

On the subject of the pc itself, it is a Dell, so Dell built it for me :)

Yes.

Moreover, the next release of DF probably won't work with it either.
