Been awhile since I played, so I'd like some opinions on the following setup I have.

The pressure platers are connected to the supports at the bottom, the towers will have marksdwarves. Are the supports overkill? And, the only thing connecting the middle part of the entrance to the ground are the supports and grates, last I played grates didn't hold them up.

Seem good? Too many supports? Additions?

I dunno if grates hold up floors or not, but if you were really worried you could connect the grates to the pressure plates so they disappear whenever the plate is stepped on.

Though you'd use an absurd amount of mechanisms for it, although you're already using an absurd amount of mechanisms so I guess that's not a problem.

98% sure grates do not support things - I seem to recall some incidents of trying to build a 5x5 grate network over my barracks that killed dwarves.

I think they will support floors, but not each other, if that makes sense.

I've done this in my dining rooms for waterfall drainage:
