That's fucking ridiculous, this kid went though all the steps to outline what he hacked and how, in order to help you with fixing the problem, and you banned him? Why? For being Lawful enough to tell you?

Thanks to most of your responses to feedback and this little bit, I'm not even going to touch your game.

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the cosmos. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips, I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my veins. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk and free throw.

I think this is all a bit hasty... It's perfectly understandable that someone would panic after having their game hacked.

Many people use the same passwords for many websites, from web games to online banking.
Anyone hacking into a web game like this could possibly acquire a list of email addresses and passwords and sell them to the highest bidder, which could pose serious problems for a lot of people.

I'm not sure if turning him into the FBI was necessary, but it's up to the FBI to decide what to do with it, as they probably get loads of trivial requests everyday so they won't spend that much more resources on it just to review the case.

Hacking is illegal, period.  It doesn't matter whether you did it for "good reasons" like discovering security flaws.  If you want to help, inform the developers of the possible flaws before you break in and leave footprints all over the place.

Pft, remember people hire hackers.

I've had emails from the FBI before. Now that I think back, I wish I had printed and framed it.

The guy who hacked it should have first asked the developer if he could test the security.

Besides, he could only be pretending to have been helping and copied all of the passwords anyway.

Hiring hackers is a different matter, since the developer can choose who to hire and there's clear boundaries on what is and isn't allowed and the consequences if these rules are broken.
Even hired hacker most likely don't actually hack into the system and leave a message.  They search and discover vulnerabilities and report on those, they don't actually go in and mess around.

an interesting aspect of the game... is that since it takes so long to actually play the game... it makes killing other players much more desirable.

It also oddly adds in game sexism since killing women does much more harm then killing men.

There are 2 types of hackers: white hat hackers and black hat hacker. A black hat hacker is the likes of anonymous who spends their time destroying and messing with other peoples virtual property. This is the type of hacker that you scold and ban. On the other hand a white hat hacker dedicates their time to helping people improve their virutal security by discovering and reporting holes in security. These people are far different from the black hat hackers that most are familiar with, they are admirable, and are only trying to help you. What Lumin has just done is ban a white hat hacker who was trying to help him. Honestly, I am personally disgusted by Lumin's action and have lost a great deal of respect for him.

P.S. this is based on personal experience. I and many of my friends are white hat hackers, and we would NEVER do anything to harm another person or website.

P.P.S. The FBI reward or hire these type of people.

Or you know... He banned a White Black Hat Hacker... Who does evil stuff AND reports it to you.

Or you know... he was a White Hat Hacker being tailed by a black hat hacker.

Yeah that is true... It is like breaking into someone's home because they didn't lock the door... walking up to their room... waking them up... and saying "You should have locked the door"

Someone is going to call the police!

So I guess that is what he did wrong... he didn't ask... he just assumed it was alright.

I like the analogy.

I'm going to stay out of this "debate" going on over whether this hacker was right or wrong and whether Lumin was right or wrong to do what he did.
