Assuming you are enough of a magical superconductor, things like that should be possible. Myths tend to lean towards this conclusion with extremely powerful magical people, such as old Gods and the like.

I'm afraid not very temporary...

I am temporarily suspending new player sign-ups as we have far more than enough players than we can handle for the time being.

Also, the game was hacked today by a member of the player base.  This person has been permanently banned from the forums and the website and I have reported him to the FBI.

He sent me a list of things he had hacked into.  It appears that he only toyed with in-game data, but as a precaution, when the game allows user logins again, everyone should immediately change their game passwords.

The site already had security in place to prevent hacking, but obviously I want to spend some more time on it.

I plan to spend the next few weeks leaving no stone unturned to make sure this does not happen again.  Until then, I cannot allow players to log-in or sign-up.  If you have a character in-game, they will be frozen and game time is not progressing.  If you are in the player queue, and waiting to be born, your queue position will not change.

It saddens me that one person has to ruin things for everyone, but perhaps it is better that we solve this now rather than later.  I will not tolerate hacking in any shape or form, whether it be benign or malicious.  It is a breach of the user agreement, and a federal crime and I will not hesitate to immediately report offenders to law enforcement.

(Also, I'm pissed off that they'd waste the FBI's time, manpower and taxpayer money for something so mind-numbingly minor.  No wonder people with REAL problems have trouble getting help.  No offense but this sounds like the equivalent of some kid picking the back lock of a 7-11 with a credit card.  Not exactly FBI material.  If he stole financial data, SSNs, or deleted your code--yeah, that's a big deal.  But it's a WEB GAME.)

Agreed. If he told you how he got in and didn't appear to break anything, you should just give him a pat on the back and fix it, not ban him and report him to the FBI. That said, it is kind of scary that someone got in like that...

Teenagers have a lot of free time.  I should know, I was one.  I'm not saying "let people do whatever they want" and I'm not even saying "reward them for hacking you", but it's a MINOR crime.  More minor than shoplifting IMO.  You have more to fear from viruses and bot networks...you know...the folks the FBI -should- be spending time on.

When some kid breaks into your 7-11, you don't THROW OUT ALL THE INVENTORY HE COULD HAVE POISONED IT OH GOD.
