Effects of rain
« on: November 12, 2008, 02:20:47 pm »

So we know that rain fills murky pools, but what other effects could/does it have?
In my current fort i've noticed that i've gotten alot of dead shrubs and saplings.
As i've got weather turned off it made me wonder if rain could matter for the regrowth & health for the plants or whatever other functions it could have upon the wildlife.
What are your experience with this?

AFAIK rain only refills pools and causes dwarves unhappy thoughts if they are out in it. It might clean them too (which would explain their displeasure at being caught in the rain!)

Regarding the shrubs and sapplings, they die if they are trampled on too much. If lots of dwarves path over them, the plants are sure to die.

I knew that they die from trampling and have taken measures against it.
I simply thought that there was a bit unusually many dead plants, though i can't say i have observed the plantlife much before. It was usually "I want wood, designate all trees" and didnt bother about trample

 Undead plants?

My god, it is only a matter of time 'till an undead mineral comes about...

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Not entirely sure if it's relevant, but it serves to lower your FPS significantly in some/most cases.

I run about 3x faster with weather turned off.

They are dead (whatever) saplings that become dead (whatever) trees.

If you turn off weather while it's raining, does it still continue forever?

That's a hilarious mental image.

"Sir, we've struck bauxite, praise the miners!"

"Excellent, begin collecting it immediately."

"Oh Armok save us, its not bauxite, its undead bauxite! Run! Run for your lives! Aaaaargh!"

The rain also leaves "water covering" on whatever it lands to.

It also cleans blood and vomit from the ground.
