I accept all those noble blades (well, machete is hardly noble, but...). A shame they are destined to become some lowly picks.

Yip, you're in a world quite similar to Earth except there are mind powers and magic items like the wasp-gem. Changing species would be a -3 and can go horribly wrong.

And back to weapon/pick thing - until I become a dwarf (and I don't plan on doing so), I'll treat picks as lowly tools for peasanats and weapons as noble companions for adventurers.

(All this in character, of course)

I'm cool with this being a human fortress. Under different circumstances I would suggest that we make a town of wood, but I'm not too keen on leaving this clearing to chop wood. Even so, we must reduce ourselves to using picks for now. Will using picks to dig be safer than using mind powers?

We WILL make a town of wood, so I will have a chance to burn it! Later, though. This will be a megaproject - build a wooden town in a jungle full of dangerous animals with only five humans.

If we're going to make a human town, we probably shouldn't dig. There are ruins down there, and who knows what kinds of terrible things that will bring upon us.

Make axes instead.
