Don't items sometimes disappear after a while?

Yep, most items dropped on the ground will disappear after a few days/sleeps.

Heh... I had one session where I simply let my tools and some other crap sit on the ground near my tent, they never disappeared. I assumed the tend somehow protects that, but possibly it has to do with something like sleep proximity.

Just got started on this addictive game. Thanks alot Bay-12 for giving me more crap to eat my time with another awesome game. :P

Anyway. Just reading some of the more recent posts, I figured stuff would want to disappear if I don't keep an eye on it; so I spent some time hauling stuff to my camp, just in case.

I'm still learning, but interestingly enough, for my first playthough, I did manage to kill off 2 lions (each a day apart from each other) with only a hammer and a flint rock on my first week, while getting burned by acid mushrooms and having an open wound after the second lion. His skin made a nice bandage.

I'm on a quest right now to find out if there are any Dharma Initiative stations placed on the Story Mode island.

That would be the best game EVER.

What an informative and interesting post, certainly worth necroing a year old thread.

Oh, and you can destroy items by attacking them, to answer the question made a year ago.

It just needs more modules for multiplayer version. Am I the only one who's made a big map with extensive crafting tree for this?

What's the most difficult vanilla random map settings to use? I'm up for a challenge. I mean, my RM is just about at it's limit (huge, normal, normal grassy). Bought all the items I could ever need (wandering hippie on island with me), there's tons of wildlife for game hunting with my arbalest, and I just about maxed out everything, and it all looks nice; plus, I have me a sailraft.

Alternatively, I have a new game with the Massive Mod installed. That poses a greater challenge, provided all the additional adjustments made to it. Not a fan of the forging process

RESPONSE TO BELOW:
Fishing Rod = Bendable wood, cotton/wool rope

Wouldn't the highest challenge be on the smallest map possible with low resources? It's been a while since I played, but I seem to recall that it's possible that vital resources aren't available on maps like that.
