getting rid of lag

how do i stop all that horrid lag from the LoS....i just cant play like that. is there a way to turn it off or something

Nope, you could try turning off temperature and weather but I have no idea how much those help in Adv Mode.  Pray for future optimizations I guess.

cant you just open up the code and delete the part that turns stuff gray when out of sight?

Also, I think some of the lag (the major, irregular lag) is due to dynamic loading of new areas as you travel around.

Try generating a pocket or a small world. Adventurer mode runs much more smoothly.

i resent that...i am not a newbie....im waiting for my king in my 11th fort right now.....i just want to be able to play adventure mode comforatably

That's good, cause if you didn't we would have run you out.

Also a great way to get rid of lag is to generate small worlds, as 'T'raveling time is probably reduced by 25% from a small to a large world. Not sure about local area, but I'm sure lag is reduced.

You'd need about an 8GHz single core to run DF properly.

... While rendering a movie, playing Crysis, compiling code, running an MMO server, playing another window of DF and running atmospheric simulations.

 Depending on the version of DF. 1.0 will require all of that power, and perhaps more. How else are you going to simulate the big-bang to present-day fantasy land?

I have found that the largest amount of lag while walking about is caused by the site direction markers.  As you walk it occasionally refigures the direction and distance, and that can take some time.
