Story:Out into the wilderness we were cast, the seven of us with a map to the site the king had set for us. It was a dig site like no other. It contained a magma pipe, mineral rich limestone and an aquifer in a 1x1 forested spot.
I have no idea why the king wanted us to embark on such a small area but he told me it was a to teach us a lesson in using the "z-axis". What ever that means I am sure I will find out.
Dain's tale through the year 201
SPRING1st of Granite: Today we finally arrived at the dig site. Funny how we always get here on the day that that spring arrives. Anyway I haven't much time to ponder these things. I must get to work.
The dig site:
6th of Granite: We have found a magma pipe burred underneath a thick layer of soil. Its funny how this thing seems to take up the whole dig site. Hopefully that won't be to much of a problem in the future.
7th of Granite: Soon after the discovery of the magma pipe we find the aquifer aswell. It is a skill that i don't have to break through this aquifer. So instead I will just break it the old fashioned way by using the magma pipe's obsidian wall as passage. The only problem is that the inhabitants of the magma pipe will not take kindly to my invasion of their world.
I think I will leave this whole business until after I have acquired a sufficient supply of crossbows and wooden bolts.
6th of Slate: I have finally worked up enough wooden bolts, beetle chitin armor, wooden crossbows and wooden shields for a pair of poorly armored crossbow dwarves. However being poorly armored is better then being unarmored.
Hopefully they will be able to take care of the magma inhabitants from a distance for they would not fare well in a close quarters fight. If this does happen I have banded together a group of war beetles to defend the archers from harm.
4th of Felsite: Our miners have breached through the aquifer by digging out the obsidian. This is great news but it is paired with bad news. The metal smith Unib Umrilzuntir has died while fighting the fire imps. He was hit by a fire imp's fireball and instantly singed to a crisp. A giant beetle was also killed in the fight when it thought that diving into the magma was a good idea. Although most of the magma creatures are kiled there still remain two fire imps with injuries in the depths of the magma. The other recruit will stand guard with his crossbow to make sure they stay there.
11th of Felsite: The other two imps were finally killed today. The Farmer Kel Tosidolon is now of duty free to plant his fields.
19th of Felsite: I accidentally dug into the aquifer when I thought I was safe. A small section of the fortress is now flooded but it hasn't done any major damge. I must be more careful next time.
SUMMER
20th of Malachite: I have started work on an outer wall now that the aquifer is breached. This wall should provide a strong defense from the enemies that I sense will invade in the future.
17th of: This place is a complete shambles. What with the magma pipe to work around I am finding it extremely difficult to set things out in an orderly manner. Instead we have paths crisscrossing this way and that.
AUTUMN
21st of Limestone: Dwarven traders from the mountain homes arrived today. Hopefully they have an anvil so that I can get a weapon and armor making process up and running.
23rd of Limestone: An anvil was acquired from the traders, to bad our experienced smith is gone.
5th of Sandstone: The wall is finally up. It is complete with a set of drawbridges over the magma below. I am still to link the bridges up to levers but I will get this done soon.
10th of Sandstone: I have ordered the workshops and stockpiles outside to be moved underground.
WINTER
2nd of Moonstone: The bridges are now set up to levers. The obsidian bridge is operated by the obsidian lever and the limestone bridge is operated by the limestone lever. I will also leave notes next to the levers aswell to remind anybody wishing to pull them.
30th of Obsidian: It looks like my turn as supervisor here at Speargroove is up. I will supply the map and the save to the next supervisor as soon as they make themselves known.
