So we've gotten some pretty neat artifacts in the best artifacts thread, but what stout men have weilded some of these legendary weapons?

I submit my mightiest warrior ever. aszim vesh masos. Legendary mace dwarf and slayer of squishy things. 415 kills to her name. currently equipped with masterwork adamantie mace and artifact turtle gauntlets and a turtle shell helm of artifact grade as well. stops sieges in their tracks.

In the fort of this one guy i know on the internet, he somehow got his captain of the guard to wield 6 artifact swords at once and wear multi-layered armor.

HFS killed his fort, IIRC.

I know this one guy, he's called the captain. Perhaps you've heard of him?

however, none of my dwarfs ever got very powerful, save for a marksdwarf who reach champion status. Remember that machine gun crossbow from Van Helsing? I liked to think they get given that when they reach champion. He had the potential to stop an ambush but managed to forget his quiver when he went out and ended up killing 1 gobbo. Actually, it was pretty good. The bolts hit the Goblins heart, both his eyes, ripped of an arm and blew out his brain in all of 3 seconds.

My macedwarf once knocked a guy across almost the entire map before he hit a tree and burst into 6 pieces. also, he doesn't seem to keep wearing the turtle shell helm. he keeps trading it for more mundane fair. any idea why?

I don't remember the name, but I remember Urist Mcrecruit's story all to well.
I had neglected to form any kind of military, and being somewhat new I ignored the need for a forge.
It was late in the game, and I decided that I'd best prepare for any seiges. So what do I do? I by several wooden spears and swords from those damn elves. Well, I forgot I had such weapons and time went by with not a care in the world. That was, till the force of vile darkness appeared.
Goblins everywhere, an idiot woodcutter and a swarm of cats fled before their might and I swear I could hear the lament of dwarf women. Well, it was at this moment that I remembered I had my wooden weapons. I quickly recruited my miners and put them near the door, then I ordered my remaining woodcutter to join them. I then had my 4 sword wielding recruits rush to join this group. Something was wrong, and then I realized that speardwarf was nowhere to be seen. I wanted to see the outcome of this battle, though, so i allowed it to wait.
The goblins charged and in little less then a second none stood at the gates but a comatose miner and his tiny war dog companion which I had assigned to him last minute. As the words "Nefol Uristlab has been struck down by a goblin wrestler" appeared on those sick purple words a single recruit charged over the now raising draw bridge, wooden spear in hand.
Urist McRecruit fought valiantly alongside the lame war dog. He speared many a dwarf, but even he was not enough. The dog succumbed to injuries and Urist took a bolt to the eye.
He slew several more goblins before something took off his leg and then, as he fell to the ground, he thrust the wooden point into a marks goblin. The goblins, never before having seen such a terrific fighter, routed. All 13 of them.

EDIT: Apologies for typos, I'm tired. XD

I don't get this.  Ok, so I've yet to go toe to toe with fire spirits, but I've killed untold frog and tentacle demons with *wrestlers*...

Also, you can manufacture vomit at a smelter.  Subsequently removing the smelter spews vomit over a surprising area.

My nasty mace dwarf aside, i've never sent in a melee guy who's come out of a 1 on 1 or even a 2 on 1 tangle with a fire demon and come out useful afterwards. somtimes they win, but they're quite on fire.

Heh, in one of my forts the most legendary and praised warrior is,... a dog. Seriously. Tons of pictures of goblins being ripped apart by McDoggy, or pictures of goblins making plaintive gestures and McDoggy laughing. The damn dog even survived a Dragon attack. Truth be told, it was the clumsiest Dragon i ever saw 'cause it managed to walk up stairs and then, for no reason whatsoever, fall down it (not more then 2 z levels) and hurt its leg after which it dragged itself right into a pine cage trap. Scary stuff.

I do believe they do.  I embarked once on a spit of terrifying land and due to constant undead waves my starting war dogs either all got names of died quickly.  After the first season though the only thing that could even touch my named doggies were the skeletal cougars.  I think I still had two dogs alive when I had to abandon due to dwarves not getting enough drink

It wasn't so much one awesome soldier, as three. I had one fort where, in the first immigrant wave I got three peasants, that promptly got assigned as wrestlers. They endured waves of untrained recruits, shoddy armour, and a non-stop training regime to emerge as legendary with sword, shield, hammer, armor and wrestling. At which stage I equipped them with masterful steel plate, shields and swords  ;D

I used them as siege breakers. I'd drop the fortress gates, the 3 would charge out, annihilating the armed squads out front before being sent to seperate corners of the map to slaughter whole squads of fleeing gobbos individually.

I've got something like nine wrestler champions, trying to multiclass'em now, but before I had thoughts of anything but wrestling...

Had a goblin ambush. Had a second one. Had a third one, all coming from different areas of the map. This ambush was before my first siege, and still had more gobbos in it. All my floodgates dropped but one. The one where he was stationed.

He killed everyone that tried to pass.

The first time I paused I saw that the goblin he was currently fighting with (five bodies on the floor before I got over to his location) had BOTH HIS EYES GONE. Next time I paused, lower spine injury, neck injury, all of one hand mangled down to the fingers and a foot mangled as well. The place was strewn with body parts, and I watched him, play by play, rip off a goblin's RIGHT SHOULDER, and everything else from below it go dark gray with it. He then proceeded to rip off both it's legs and half an arm. THEN I believe he ripped it in half, because I ended up with the gobbo's lower and upper torso. His name was Beowulf.

He was killed when he fought a giant eagle thereafter, which, when he made unconscious, fell into a trap and was captured. I immediately modded the game so it could be tamed and trained as a war animal, and before he expired, ecstatic because of how much fun he was having and thinking of how badly he was going to tear the shit out of the dwarven afterlife, I assigned the eagle to be his pet. He died with thirty six kills, the grand majority of them from that ambush.

Awesome.

That last gobbo would stand there, missing an arm, punctured in a kidney, liver, and spleen, fading in and out of consciousness at the far end of where the drawbridge would go, and his last sight would be the drawbridge dropping down and smashing him like a bug.

God DAMN I love this game!

Shell stuff is considered leather-level armor, no matter how good it is.  As such, he'll automatically replace it with a metal one when you set him to chain- or plate-level armor, no matter how shitty the metal one is.
