[40D, Wine 1.1.8] Glitchy graphics (solved)
« on: November 09, 2008, 03:11:22 pm »

I've run DF on this machine before, under Wine (forget the version), Ubuntu 8.04.  I haven't played in a while, upgraded to the latest Ubuntu 8.10 and Wine 1.1.8.  I decided to sit down with it again and play for a bit.  I went immediately to MikeMayday's site to get the latest... it didn't turn out so well.  In fact, it crashed X and had to reload it (full or non-full screen.)

Ok, it must be something with the tileset (I kept telling myself.)  Let's get the "official" build.  Same thing.  I get a screen like:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
And upon hitting Quit on the menu (I remember it's the last item... can sort of tell which menu is lit up) The screen goes black, and I'm booted out to the login screen.

Edit:
I've tried running it in the command prompt.  It still glitches, the screen flashes like a blocked porno and I get no Wine errors.

Because I know someone will ask...

$ glxinfo | grep "OpenGL"
OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 965GM 20061102
OpenGL version string: 1.4 Mesa 7.2

$ glxinfo | grep "direct rendering:"
direct rendering: Yes

Edit 2:

I feel like an idiot now.  I had the window effects on.   :D

(In case someone else gets this)

System -> Preferences -> Appearance
Visual Effects Tab -> Set to None

"Having faith" that the bridge will not fall, implies that the bridge itself isn't that trustworthy. It's not that different from "I pray that the bridge will hold my weight."
