Favourite Minor Tweaks
« on: November 09, 2008, 12:03:50 pm »

Sometimes it's not the big mods that make the difference, but the little details that affect the balance of the game. Mine was changing the large dagger and short sword's damage class to PIERCE and adding a critical hit boost, making kobolds and some goblins more dangerous and making short swords truer to the period; by the time in our history that DF is generally agreed to be set, the Romans had realised that a stab was more effective than a slash for lightweight infantry weapons. I'll probably follow up the trend with tower shields once formations are in.

I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

I like making obsidian usable for spears, as well as short swords.  Obsidian spear head, wooden shaft... it just makes sense, in my opinion.

I've been wanting to try that, myself. Mind lending the code?

Removing [SUBTERRANEAN_CLOTHING] from goblins to cull all the GCS stuff is the best I can offer, myself.

No problem.  I'm not certain, but I think it can.

Apparently to do this now you need to make dwarves fine with eating other sentient creatures with their civ ethics and then gen a new world. Have you done it some other way in the newest version?

Wicked.

I wonder if there's a [CAN_WOOD] tag for wooden weapons... would be lovely for spears.

I'm pretty sure that at least at the moment there is no [CAN_WOOD] tag.

Flint as a sharp stone.  If flint & steel sets are ever implemented for starting fires, this will be essential if you find dwarves that want to fight you.

Same here; once I get good enough at Dwarven indoor plumbing to be confident with tackling magma, I'll be adding [CAN_STONE] to pretty much everything that ends in a sharp point, and going with Legolord's suggestion as well, though I should probably nerf rock weapons at the same time.

Alas, we cannot nerf rock weapons. They will always be at the same strength as steel. That is, 'till they can break.

* Jake cancels mod in flint weapons: Interrupted by stuff he really hopes Toady One stops hard-coding in future releases.
