Special mission types (idea 1: military base)

You start with more supplies (and constant free supplies from your civ) and a large contingent of soldiers [though they can be used for some civilian tasks to make building walls, etc, go faster]. No nobles [or different "nobles" like a general, etc] The catch? Sieges every season after a certain point, no trade from anyone else, a significant percentage of military dwarves frequently go off-map on missions and may come back with losses. Embark location is chosen for you. Your goal is to create a well-defended self-sufficent fortress on the frontier between your civ and the goblins (or elves, or humans) they are at war with.

This would probably me better off in the suggestions subforum.

Suggestion category would be better, yes.

But I would actually love to see some different simple variations of normal dwarf fortress mode like this one, something that actually subtly changes the game mechanics, or that could provide very short term / hard games.

So why are you suggesting stuff that's already going to be implimented? (Except for the random placement and possibly the sieges/trade) Even so, this could eventually all be set up

He is just tossing out ideas... nothing wrong with that but suggestion forum would be better.
