and when your fame is getting high enough that random enemies can start kicking your butt

Start failing missions! Fail like it is a win!

Don't fail missions with a time limit. That would be a real fail, because you take karma hit. Fail missions without a time limit - those that teleports you instantly to the mission location, like party and harvest. Party quest is especially good because you can pass time by attacking guests that you are able to defeat for their loot.

I found an easy way to safely get to level 3 or so. Get a class with the weightlifting skill and pick up your initial furniture to the point where you take the 'your backpack is squashing you' damage. This will train weightlifting and your healing skill when you heal the damage. You also get experience to your level up. 3 moi importante things.

You have to play the instruments. Either bring your own or use the scattered pianos.

Of course, if you try this with no performing skill, you're going to die. Even if you have 15 or 20 performing skill, they'll still chuck rocks at your occasionally, so you've got to wear armor. Only when you hit around 30 skill will pretty much everybody be happy.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Leveling up in Elona isn't exactly a good thing as it doesn't actually effect your skills all the much. Especially when you're a wizard.

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

If I remember right, peoples' expectations of your performance are based on their level--and the town closest to your starting cave has an NPC sitting in it who's absurdly high level and will kill you constantly for daring to perform imperfectly for him.

Though that might have been another town, not entirely sure, anyone remember?

I doubt anyone has a reached a high enough level in performing to appease him. It was in Vernis, and he oneshots everyone as far as I know.

He throws rocks at everyone who plays the piano near him. He occasionally spawns a parties and he acts the same there, too. (According to the wiki. <_< )

I just got the riding skill, does anybody know how I use it?
The wiki says nothing about it...

If you press 'a', it will let you mount pets. When you get attacked, your pet will take damage instead and I believe it will also make you faster.

What about doing offerings to your god?
Simply dropping it on the altar doesn't work and the wiki keeps this topic rather general.

You open up your skills thing (likely A)

It lets you ride an animal of your choice.

They OCCASIONALLY take damage instead of you

The main advantage for doing so is that speed is determined by the average of your two speeds (and it becomes more and more conveniant with more riding skill). As well it provides immunity to certain status effects and partial immunity (I think it was just Paralysis, but it could be fear too)

For characters like Golems it is a much needed skill! (30 speed Vs. 120... do the math)

Speed determines how often you take actions. meaning it is as vital as life itself.

Remember that you can't use heavy weapons while riding. Your mount's strength will also affect how much speed you gain. Carrying more than your mount can carry will slow them down exponentially, and they CAN get crushed by you if you carry too much.

"O"ffer items on an altar. The controls are on the "?" help menu.

And that is why Horses make great mounts!
