Every character which i create fails.
To weak, too poor and always hungry this are usally their main problems...

Try a warrior type. Mages need a constant flow of suitable spellbooks, which is not easy.

Then read the notice board and do the easy missions - delivery to nearby towns. Go read Elona wiki for the world map. That will solve the poor problem.

With money, the food problem is also solved. Inside towns you always go for the fruit trees, and buy rations, bread and pies (they never rot in 1.14, probably the same in 1.16). Herbs provide little nutrition, but can give stat gains. Your pets will get more benefits than you when eating herbs.

Then you need equipment... go milk the Puppy Dungeon for items. Stick around the stairs and grab items inside, exit and re-enter to regenerate the dungeon. Use the money from doing delivery quests to identify the items.

Negotiation skill is HIGHLY recommended to down the costs and up the income. Check wiki on where and how to learn it, or start with a race with it.

And remember... dying is nothing for a low level (IIRC < level 6) character. You lose nothing... so just crawl back up.

So far I haven't seen a single delivery mission on the boards.
Weird.

Some towns (like Palmia and Yowyn) offer specialized mission types. Try Vernis.

If you don't already have them, go buy a few slaves in Derphy. Do it now.

Aside from that, most of your money is going to go into food (Until you get some 7LBs) and equipment in shops (And investing in those shops.).

Always make sure you have healing potions and scrolls/rods, especially if you're going dungeon diving.

Don't forget you need food for the overmap too. YOu go through food much faster when traveling from town to town. I always make a habit of bringing at least 7 units of Ration Cargo.

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

What about the skills you can buy with platinum points and statpoints?

I'm playing a wizard and not quite sure which skills really need points and which ones can 'take care of themselves'.

The key to success in this game is to Procrastinate and Fail

It sounds like a joke but I assure you that those are the keys to success.

As a wizard you never really quite "Take care of yourself". That's what you're loyal band of companions of for. Wizards, even at high levels, are extremely squishy so you've got to stay moving and let your companions keep monsters distract.

As for skills; Memorization, Meditation, and any other skill involving casting are important. Just remember that you don't want to level up in this game, that's a good way to be horribly murdered. Focus on getting your skills up through trainers and casting spells first. A good source of spellbooks early on is the Beginners Dungeon, it's fill with books and every time you leave and come back there's new loot and low level monsters.

Start failing missions! Fail like it is a win!

I was randomly doing quests and now somehow my karma is -32 o.o
Is there a realatively save way to regain karma?

If you go to jail by reading a cursed scroll of return, you'll regain karma bit by bit. But you'll also lose stats/skills.
The rest should be on the aforementioned wiki.

How do the party missions work? I can't seem to do anything except run around for a few minutes before getting kicked out with 0 points.

You have to play the instruments. Either bring your own or use the scattered pianos.
