Crossbows are easier at the start... easy to aim and without the need of reload, and the firing rate isn't that bad compared to most starting guns, plus you can sometimes hit more than one target.

Later on (20+ days) there are too many targets spread around the screen, and the slow crossbows (even with bow master skill) will not be enough.

Investing in chickens can be good if you get that skill to support it. Getting the chicken medals (which is not cheap) will give you even more money for the eggs.

The problem with the crossbow is the lack of damage. Takes two shots for a starting hunter to kill a sheep or chicken without a crit, and those can be annoying to get with a bowgun.

The sheriff's shotgun is horrible, especially when trying to deal with the chickens, since you can't tell your ally to shoot at ranged attackers over melee ones, and you can't hit chickens on the far side of the screen.

My favorite so far has to be either the sniper or militia. Massively boosted damage or random grenades are great, and they can switch between a bowgun and rifle with no troubles. Still need to unlock the other three though.

Those chickens are indeed annoying for crossbows. The location of a torso hit is strange on them, and they hop around sometimes. But for sheep I can headshot nearly all of them, and the rest aren't a threat.

The sheriff's shotgun is horrible, especially when trying to deal with the chickens, since you can't tell your ally to shoot at ranged attackers over melee ones, and you can't hit chickens on the far side of the screen.

I found the shotgun is quite good! I started a sheriff fully expecting it to be a hard fight, but the shotgun is not difficult to aim at all... I can kill a things with a shot or two at the edge of the screen. The trick is to time your reload - if it's only a bunch of sheep/rats, let your hirelings handle them! Your powerful shotgun slugs are for ranged troops and suicide bombers - reload before them arrive. When a boss arrives I don't shoot the boss - my hirelings will focus fire on the boss, so I pick off the other buggers. My first sheriff scored 4 perfect days in a row just like that.

My favorite so far has to be either the sniper or militia. Massively boosted damage or random grenades are great, and they can switch between a bowgun and rifle with no troubles. Still need to unlock the other three though.

So far I've only played a rogue, hunter and sheriff, all made it to around 20th day. Ranger and noble unlocked.

I prefer the pistol, I can easily get perfects on the first 5 rounds alone with just the rogue's single pistol if I have an ammo upgrade.

For some reason, I can't even get past the first round when I use the sheriff/militia. Every time I try to shoot down something farther than half the field it misses entirely. It took my entire rifle clip to take down one of those chickens when I'm aiming RIGHT AT the friggin' thing. I should probably use those grenades...

Militia is great for killing chickens. Just have to space your shots so you don't get too in accurate.

Oh yeah... some weapons' accuracy go down when you shoot repeatedly. I once "upgraded" my hunter's bowgun to a rapid bowgun... that's a really big mistake.

What upgrades do you recommend?  I generally pick up a helper if I don't start with a little girl, then I make a beeline for the house.  Hasn't gotten me past 11 days yet, though.  Eggs seem to be worthless, and so does robbery (unless you really need the money right now).

I find one or two levels of repair can be great for helping you nail perfects. Past that...Guns!Guns! Guns!

Augh. I can't seem to get past the 11 level without carrying over. D:
I had level 2 reload with 2 reload mods on my rifle and 2 slaves... and 2 grenades.

Goodness it looks like things have improved a bit... maybe I should download the new version.

Remember if your a slow race then Mount is not only essential but awe inspiring.

Though everyone benefits from a mount unless they are using one of those non-playable classes or a crossbreed.

Also you should get Negotiation ASAP possibly as one of your first bought skills if you don't start with it.

It makes a HUGE difference rather quickly.

Just start bringing the henchman with you. Unlocking medals is also good, particularly the crit hit and chicken ones. Just keep going for any medal you think you can get. They all help in the long run.

Anyone notice that in the "get off my lawn!" opening sequence, besides the groom who escaped, there's a guest hiding behind the Kongregate logo?

I just tried a noble who lost on day 11th. I feel the AP costs are too high for some much needed actions... like refreshing shop inventory. My noble has the skill that gives random AP (level 2), as is one of his follower, but I never got any extra.

Party skills don't stack. The +AP skill is very random.

I do agree. Not so much with the shop restocking, but with other things like breaking down guns into mods.
