Elona needs a "Feather" spell, ala Morrowind/Oblivion.

Just eat more arm-type monsters. Have a ranch of arms!

Of course, I fully expect horror if you use Feather on the little girl.

Yup, I expect nothing less. :P

I lost 2 of my tax bills now I can't pay the tax even though I have the money -> -60 Karma/month >:(

Paying the new ones doesn't seem to have any effect at all...

I don't recall if you can pay tax after the next one comes... but if you lost your tax bill, you can visit the gnome (?) in the small hut in the snow, and purchase a new one with small medals.

Oh my god.

"You begins to feel good when being hit hard."

"Lily has finishes eating marmoggia. Lily now begins to feel good when being hit hard"

Has both of us become Tenshi* or something?

*a Masochist.

Argh! Gratuitous Japanese!

"You begins to feel good when being hit hard." is a humorous, perhaps intentional, translation. It means that your constitution went up.

I think it's a vastly amusing thought that elephants are so afraid of heights that when Dwarves invented the Z-axis, they couldn't bear to face dwarves in combat anymore.

Or a reference to other games even. In Final Fantasy II you increase max. HP by losing HP.

I've seen that message in other roguelikes. I think it's found in at least ADoM as well.

Anyhow, I can't access the forums for this game right now. Any idea if the compiler is on it's way?

You're all welcome to create your own Elona topics (I think, I'm not Toady) but I'm bumping this one up to show that it still exists.

Keeping all of the discussion in any one topic would be preferable, closing the oldest one if necessary for some reason.

I rather liked FF2's system, but it was never duplicated again. Did people find it too confusing or difficult? It seems even more natural and intuitive then the systems used in every FF thereafter. It's "push button, get bacon"! Cast spells, get better at spells! Get hit, get better at getting hit!

I didn't like FF2 because it was boring, unthemey, and grindy.  Your characters were kind of blank slates to do whatever you wanted with, which was kind of cool...but I felt like they just didn't have that vital spark of life.  Even character classes work to differentiate them a little.  It was realistic-ish, but the stat gain system just felt like an example of "realistic isn't fun".  Besides, to gain max HP you had to lose HP, which led to an unreasonable system of "Oh I want more HP, let me just stand here and get beat on for a few hours".

True. It was implemented poorly at times, but it was pretty novel- especially for an NES game! Did you try the Dawn of Souls, Gameboy Advance upgrade? Mostly the same idea, but characters have a bit more life in them, it seems.

Plus, it always amuses me to turn the Big Tough Guy into a white mage healer sort who's frail as hell, and the Frail Little Girl into a badass axe wielding berserker. That's fun you just can't beat.

On Elona, does anyone know what the "custom NPC update" is?

Little girl likes it rough. I think you should start giving her lots of leather. Possibly your extra belts, those make for sexy shirts.

And a belt skirt! Tetsuya Nomura approves of our judicious use of belts.

It's mostly random, but you can find an altar to every ingame god in a shrine like place south from the Noyel snow field.
