Google seems to claim you should give ores to your pets, who will then sell them and improve themselves with the gold.

From the sound of it, ores should be used to make materials or metals or something. Maybe they're placeholders.

EDIT: I got two monster dreams in one night, causing my arms to get strong (STR+3) and causing me to be delighted by the taste of human flesh. The game calls them mutations but they sorta sound like Sniper Joe corruptions.

At least your getting good mutations. So far my new rogue has gotten -3 Dex and -5 Charisma in the first 3 days of his existance.  :'(

Edit: Oh and let's not forget the -2 dex from getting clumsy twice from one well.  >:(

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

Roguelikes and especially Elona have a reverse difficulty curve, which is a lot like real life actually. Things start out ridiculously hard and get slowly, slowly better.

Don't feel bad, my Leader Bard got -5 Charisma on the second day. Cruelty.

Oh yeah? On the FIRST day, I died.

WorkerDrone has won...unless you got pregnant with an Xenomorph. If so, YOU win, because I haven't even THOUGHT about drinking from a well when I heard that could happen.

The first day I played my real character I got the Ragnarok... Heh.

My test Pianist was a failure though.

Well I'm stuck deciding what my third member of my thief's brigand should be. Either a wizard of Elea or a Yerles machine infantry..

Yerles machine infantry. Spellcasters make very poor pets; I had one.

Does anyone know what you're suppose to do with ore pieces? The wiki makes it seem like their important but I can't find a use for them.

Two types of ores:

Raw ores are trade goods, you can sell them directly, use them to trade for "I Want It!" missions.

The ore piece is a garbage item, like a skeleton or wood piece, it is utterly useless, and should be discarded immediately if you even bother to pick it up.

Also, spellcasters are bad pets, because friendly fire applies to spells.

EDIT: I was escorting a client from Palmia to Vernis, since I had 13 days to get there, I stopped by in Yowyn to do some delivery quests.

While I was there, my client fell into the goddamn well, and died.

Well having -45 karma at lvl 4 sucks. Anyone know a good way to increase it?

Two options, die to guards. (+10 to karma because you are under level 6) Or take some jobs in Derphy.

Those tips actually make more sense than what was recommended at the Elona Wiki.

Also, I noticed something yesterday involving feeding your pets cooked meals and other things: they are more likely to get the stat bonuses than the player is. In fact, I've recieved messages stating I've gotten a bonus from eating putits, hermit crabs, and even a hand of chaos, and yet, no bonus, while in another game, the little girl pet gets a boatload of willpower, magic, and charisma from all the salads, cookies, and other foods I give her o.o

Perhaps this is a glitch of some sort, I don't know. Either way, it has inspired me to write a new tip in the Elona Wiki, and report a bug...

When I feel like it, that is. Currently playing Elona a little less, as if I play it extended periods of time, I see it constantly, like some unusual heads-up display in my peripheral vision.

Unusual, yes? The same thing happened twice before, once with Dwarf Fortress, and another time with Mabinogi.

Either way, Elona is still the greatest roguelike/life sim I will ever play, so far.

I currently need to break out of my loosing rut.

When I played a Mutant as my first character (a Warrior Mutant) I actually did mildly well but I ended up dying too much to repair my character.

I thought to myself: "Well the Wiki did say they are hard to start off with"

So I created a second character and BOOM I was murdered by enemies I wiped the floor with as a Mutant.

What is wrong with me?

What is "Incarnate a character"? I can't seem to find it on the Wiki.

Does it require me to do something inside the game?

Incarnating is playing as an heir of one of your other characters. Get a spouse, and "make a gene," hehe.
