I don't know if it quite reaches Earthbound levels of insanity.  After all, in Mother 3...

This gives me an idea. Who wants to see a Let's Play of Elona? I've got all races unlocked, so I can play any of the following (imagine the voice of someone reading out the small print):

Yerles, Eulderna, Fairy, Dwarf, Juere, Elea, Snail, Lich, Goblin, Golem, Mutant, kobolt, Orc, Troll, Lizardman, Minotaur, Norland, Asura, Slime, Wolf, Zombie, Rabbit, Sheep, Frog, Centipede, Mandrake, Beetle, Mushroom, Bat, Ent, Hound, Ghost, Spirit, Eye, Wyvern, Wasp, Giant, Imp, Hand, Snake, Drake, Bear, Armor, Medusa, Cupid, Phantom, Harpy, Dragon, Dinosaur, Cerberus, Spider, Rock, Crab, Skeleton, Piece, Cat, Dog, Roran, Rat, Shell, Catgod, Machinegod, Undeadgod, Machine, Wisp, Chicken, Stalker, Catsister, Yeek, Yith, Servant, Horse, God, Quickling, Metal.

Whew. Quite the list. So, anyone else think this is a good idea and wishes to participate?

It would be quite funny, actually, I like this idea. I suggest trying a snail tourist (HARD!!!) or a god pianist. Or maybe a mutant claymore.

So I finally got around to play it... because most of these jrpgs really turn me down... I mean, story is nice and all but YOU CAN TOTALLY OVERDO IT. And when I think about some of the dialogues some of the jrpgs hurl at you I actively start to rethink my breakfast. (And this has nothing to do with translation but everything with what seems to be interesting for nippon gamers. I heard this pretty much stems from how life feels for the average japanese kid. I wouldnt wanna be in their place...)

This one is a bit different... you can pretty much ignore the lukewarm teenie relationship crap and focus on the tentacle porn weirdness. Also its a roguelike! Somehow... But I cant help it...:

I think I'm...

I just looted a potion of "cure corruption" with a level one character. about 3 days into the game. Sweet, aetherwind here I come.

Now we only need a proper translation (this one is really bad)
item descriptions
and a soundtrack that doesnt promote suicide

Got a potion of cure corruption for marrying a little sister. Sweet.

Unfortunately, I've discovered a slight problem in that, for some reason, the latest version of Elona doesn't work on this computer. I can't extract the files property; it gets about nine tenths of the way then freezes my computer. I still have version 1.13, but that's not fully translated and it's a bit buggier supposedly :/

So, no LP until I manage to install version 1.14 correctly.

Wait a sec, 1.14 is translated MORE and BETTER than 1.13?

I used 1.13 because the supposedly online functions have been disabled, but it still asks for inet connection. And when I deny that, it just doesnt start.

Is there an ini setting that disables the connection attempts?

Oh, and if it doesnt extract properly, I assume you tried re-downloading it? Maybe from a different source?

Internet functions are pretty much what nethack does with the IRC channel. Lets everyone else know how you died and what you said when you died. Also allows access to the various moongates.

If 1.14 is trying to go online when you start it, you're playing an old copy... Noa said in the official forums that he missed a file when packing that. IIRC the missing file is a certain txt file, you can just create an empty one with the name and Elona won't try to go online.

If you download 1.14 again it should be fine. Or you could just let it go online once - then you can disable online functions in the options menu.

Have to ask...

Has anyone else had a message say "Lets ragnarock" Than had about a bajillion bad things happen after that?

Cause it just happened to me, started with book reading, than lead to random summon, and things just went down hill after that.

One of the guys in Vernis... the dweller in vanity, I believe... has a sword which "Ignites Ragnarok." Were you reading the book in Vernis? Because if you were, that person may have attacked one of the random summons, thereby invoking Ragnarok.

Ragnarok IS the sword, and it has an intristic which, "ends the world"

List of stats from the wiki:

It is made of obsidian.
It is precious.
It can be wielded as a weapon. (2d18 Pierce 20%)
It is a heavy weapon.
It modifies hit bonus by 4 and damage bonus by 3.
It modifies DV by -1 and PV by 1.
It grants you resistance to chaos. [##]
It brings an end.(This sets off a massive explosion in your area and summons a swarm of high level dragons of various types which are hostile to you and all NPCs, as well as summoning Etherwind. You are highly unlikely to survive this.)

My theory is someone got hold of the sword and allowed it to spiral out of control.

Gaaah! They really should make some of that stuff obvious! Although I will admit, I saw him get killed by a steel golem, which was also summoned. So I have no idea how that happened. ???
