I don't think there is any ill effect until you miss 5 or 6 months worth; you can then pay them all at once.

If you fail to, you get a huge karma hit, so it's not a permanent loss anyway. At least, I think that's all that happens...

Oh, in that case Ill just pay every other month.

Also... For some reason I JUST KEEP GETTING the mad millionare random event! I have got over 10,000 gold from it in less then a day!

At the start of the game the first thing I did EVER, was eat the raw begger meat in the cave.

I went delightfully insane for some reason. Probably for the cannibalism.
