Abyss: Potions of Descent.

Tepes: It was called Etherwind, right?  Considering the last version released was v0.50, I think he abandoned it to work on Elona.  It seems a lot of things from that game were used in Elona, though.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for those potions.

I can't read the language to say, but it looked neat anyway. >.>

I tried to get into this game, but the Japanosity of it kind of turned me away. I'll stick to NetHack and ADOM for my dying-repeatedly-in-terrible-ways needs. I suppose I just prefer getting killed by ascii characters as opposed to getting killed by cute little blobs and assorted anime people.

Although I did want to get into the whole "owning tons of property and being the mayor of everywhere" part, I'm sure it would take plenty of time and annoyance to get there.

So where do I get these "love potions" anyway? (Or do I just keep checking the shops until one pops up?)

I just found this thread today, and after a bit of struggle I got the game (the site's response is very slow when I try to download).

I have two questions, but I can't seem to be able to search for them on both the official site and here.

1) I've downloaded the MP3 pack, but how do I configure the game to use it?

2) How do I find the quest giver? My first character took a birthday quest, which involves a broken sword I've seen in my house. I went back, got the sword and went back to town, but now I can't find anyone to give it to. I've read in this thread that there's an arrow above the quest giver... but I couldn't find any, and I've wandered all over the town for like 2 days... the deadline is tomorrow. Help please?

That's what I did.

Put the contents of the MP3 pack in Elona/User/Music. It (should) read them automatically, but it's been a while since I played.

Usually if you speak to a guard you can ask them where to find your quest giver.  Though the instructions can be rather vague, ("Walk to considerably east", for example), they should be enough to lead you to the quest giver. :)

Thanks Keiseth! Initially I placed the files into \sound. They work now. :D

I found a guard and tried talking to him (i, direction, a), but he just gave me random chatter, then his patience ran out (like in GearHead, it seems) and won't talk to me anymore. I'm going to fail the first quest... :-[

You don't talk to them to get where the patron is. It's usually "b" to ask.

Thanks Okenido... *knocks myself on the head for not looking at the command list closely*

I already failed that quest though. I figured that'd be an extra unnecessary problem for me to deal with, I started a new character - Dwarf Warrior called Urist. And I just completed my first quest - hunting monsters in a forest!

I also notice that when I pickup a quest from the board, it takes me to the quest giver's location - so all I need to do is to look at the minimap before accepting the job. :D

Oh man....  :'(

That message... made me feel I betrayed her trust.

This is the second time she dies... the first time I refused to pay up when ambushed by a gang of robbers, she didn't follow me and flee. And that first slime in the putit dungone almost got her.

You can't actually give her your hand oddly enough.  It would be cool though if you could.

Yay!
I liked it very much, I had a ranch, a house and a museum... But I missed a lot of stuff, because it was almost all-japanese these days... Now it has a wiki and is better translated =). Thank you for poining this out!

I died plenty of times... had enough successful side quests to keep my fame and karma positive though.

$1400 or so hunting missions are easy, as long as there's no firearm-using people in there... all the times I died are because of them.

Now I'll go read more articles on the wiki...
