Languages Spoken.
« on: November 07, 2008, 10:56:40 am »

How many languages do you speak, and to what level?

I myself speak 3 languages, English (fluent), Arabic (fluent...somewhat) and Spanish (two years, so somewhat basic.)

I can understand some Japanese, but really do not speak it.

I plan on getting japanese, russian and german before I die.

This forum is pretty international, so I doubt a poll can cover everything.

I only speak English, and I do so quite fluently. I would like to learn all of the Scandinavian languages, as I mean to visit Scandinavia someday.

Icelandic and English fluently, of course, but I also know a tiny bit of Danish(the school system made me do it >.>) and I will probably have to learn a bit of German too.

You, sir, are awesome! Do Icelanders really eat rotten shark, or is that just a bunch of malarkey?

Scandinavian languages, you say?

I can handle Finnish fluently, Swedish quite badly (forced by the school system as well), English almost fluently and I have been studying French for 6-7 years, but still producing it is very hard (at least I can understand it quite well).

Rotten shark, ram's testicles, burnt sheep heads, yeah, all of that, although it's really just cultural heritage rather than everyday foodstuffs.

I can speak English and French fluently enough, and Arabic, although not at all as well as the other two languages.

Hah, how many here speak Estonian?! I bet no one can topple that!
Besides being a native Estonian speaker, I've spoken English since I was a child and discovered teh intertubes, I also understand German quite well, but writing and speaking in German not so much. I had Russian in school, but since I started learning three years later than everyone in my class, I pretty much cheated through the whole class in school and I'm only capable of the extreme basics in Russian. Oh, and native Estonian and Finnish speakers can understand each other quite well, since our languages are so similar(in speech at least), for whatever that's worth.

i can speak italian (quite well. i am italian!) and a bit of english (i am not good at speaking, but at least i don't make so many typing mistakes. probably enough to understand people and make people understand me. still, i prefere writing and reading. i think english would be like default here, since if we can understand and post a rpely we know english)
