Maybe DOSBox would work?

Damn, beat me to it...

Still, DOSBox is HIGHLY recommended by me as well. How else would I run all the abandonware on my computer?

"Compatibility mode", dude. If he tries running it under "capatability mode" some terrible thing involving elder gods will probably happen.

I was like, ha, this looks like a pretty dumb and boring game. I was so wrong. Gentlemen, I have discovered true fun.

I hear DOSBox and the like are too slow to run Noctis; unless perhaps you have an incredibly fast computer. Mine (1.4ghz) is too slow to run TES: Arena in DOSBox, for instance.

Worth a shot anyway I suppose. Yeah, and Noctis IV CE or NICE is incredibly good. Praise to the folks that worked on it.

Hrm. Vista users; could they run a Virtual Machine of something to accomplish older tasks? I'm thinking Win98, XP would probably be too resource intensive to run alongside Vista like that.

VMWare has a free version. find a FreeDOS VMware client and run it in that.

VMWare doesnt emulate *ANYTHING* it doesnt have to, it sends the code directly to the CPU to execute so it is blazingly fast, but as of right now has no D3D or openGL acceleration capabilities... but for DOS stuff that doesn't matter anyway so it's perfect for stuff like this.

i think the free version of VM is still running on top of another OS, unlike ESX which is its own OS (or uses a stripped down version of something else).

you'll get better performance out of something like Xen, but youre right.  its a dos game.  who cares.

There's a rather big difference between emulating a core and running code native on a core.  Yes, it runs via a host OS. The largest performance difference between running DOSbox and VMware + some version of DOS is the code is run natively on the cpu with vmware instead of emulation like DOSbox, which is an incredibly large performance difference.

Firstly, I'd like to thank yamo for giving the link to Noctis. Now I have a new game to play. It's odd; when you play it for a while, you discover that it's bizarrely fun, despite expectations.  For what it is, it has decent graphics as well. I've taken some snapshots in the game that turned out nicely. I'll post a few.

One of my first and favorite pictures so far.

Alien ship spotted! ...Wait, I'm in one, aren't I...

Panorama from the pole of a life-bearing planet.

A nice picture I took while flipping through viewing modes.

A gas giant accompanied by it's two suns, within a system that I've claimed for myself. I named the stars Sylveris and Sylveris Minor.

Lastly, a picture of a spiky plant I found in the Sylveris system. This area of the planet has transparent, obsidian-like hills covered by white grass; peculiar indeed.

they were/are my favorite crpgs...not free but cheap considering how great these games are and the 1000s of hrs of gameplay...Gosh i miss JVC...wish he would do another turn based rpg....the puzzles are sooo cool..the games are like inside out rubiks cubes.  I hope this is not considered spam, i can't vouch for the download source but i think they are legit.(?)

heh, now if i can just find Wizardry 2-4...i even have a pad of graph paper, pencil sharpener and eraser heads....just waiting...  :D
