Item Creation
« on: November 03, 2008, 02:59:34 pm »

Which utility would I need to use in order to hack in random items?

Like creating wood in the middle of the desert?

Or crafting a complete set of legendary adamantine armor?   etc.

Or do I have to do somethin' even more complicated?  *Can handle complicated*

I am not sure, but I believe Dwarf Companion can help with a lot of that.

Direct creation is IMPOSSIBLE with a 3rd party utility. (Including Companion)
You can alter dwarfs (...with Companion) to give them legendary stats for the adamantine armor, and a smelter reaction as below for the actual adamantine wafers.
A smelter reaction
[REACTION:WOOD]
[NAME:magic wood]
[SMELTER]
[PRODUCT:100:1:WOOD:NO_SUBTYPE:WOOD:OAK]
would work for the wood.
Put that in reaction_standard.txt
A LOT of stuff can be done with the raws, and it's not complicated at all.
Common sense, quite literally, is all you need.
[REACTION:MAGICADA]
[NAME:magic adamantine]
[SMELTER]
[PRODUCT:100:1:BAR:NO_SUBTYPE:METAL:ADAMANTINE]

Both of these were completely off the top of my head...
Guessing I play DF too much?  Wrong!  DF modding is EASY.
I'd give a generic witty saying involving pie but pie is most definitely not easy, so I never understood that saying to begin with.

Making items of a specific quality requires ITEMCORPSE (more specifically, ITEMCORPSE_QUALITY) -- you can't set quality at a smelter.  For masterwork adamantine plate (untested):

[ITEMCORPSE:ARMOR:ITEM_ARMOR_PLATEMAIL:METAL:ADAMANTINE]
[ITEMCORPSE_QUALITY:5]

Correct.
And just in case you misread, I didn't actually say you could.
My method was to have a legendary dwarf create the armor from adamantine wafers that you created at a smelter, as those don't have qualities in the first place.

Okay.   And what if I want something better than masterpiece?  Say...  Artifact level?

You could try setting itemcorpse quality to 6, I guess, but I doubt it'll work.  The game treats artifacts differently in lots of ways.

Yeah, but it's hard to get an artifact better than a masterpiece adamantine short sword. damage=120x500x2=120,000

An artifact adamantine sword is, in fact, even more powerful then that.
How much so, I can't say, but it is.

I didn't say you were.  But the way you worded that first post made it hard to tell.

Well I did say hard to get, not impossible.  I had a fort with adamantine where a guy made a weapon out of iron when there was plenty of the blue stuff around.

You just forbid the other stuff when there's a metal mood.

At the time I thought that he'd go for the best available.  Besides, if you're going through a really productive period in your fort, that can be disruptive.

Someone said that the only creature you can create in a smelter is vermin, or you can create other creatures, but they act as vermin.

Can you create vermin from a smelter en masse and then have them have a corpse that drops masterwork stuff? So have a bunch of cats kill them and viola, your smelter/cat compound can create hundreds of masterwork plate armors.

I *think* itemcorpse doesn't work with vermin but it's worth a try.
