Bureaucracy (Discussion)
« on: November 02, 2008, 05:52:21 pm »

After being involved in some tedious political bureaucracy last weekend I tried to play a game with some friends from which one stated the rules.

1. Your objective is to win.
2. Every round everyone might make one proposal that has to be accepted or rejected by the majority of the players through democratic referendum.
3. Every player has to stick to the rules, unless nobody else detects any circumvention of the rules.

Beginning with round #1, the rules would be

1. Referenda are to be decided by absolute majority.
2. There is a person to be defined as moderator who decides how to handle the game.
2. a. The moderator is to be elected by relative majority before there is any need for a moderator.
2. b. If the moderator loses, a new moderator has to be elected.

Example: Player Nyarlathotep has been elected as moderator. Azathoth makes the first proposal in round #1: "I propose Nyarlathotep makes me a sandwich". Proposal rejected by 2:5. Joe Plumber makes a proposal: "For his lack of democratic calculus, I propose to let Azathoth lose." Accepted by 6:1. Player Loki makes a proposal: "I win." Accepted by 5:1. Loki wins. THE END.

Now this could be complicated as a forum game because players may chose to join or leave the game as they please, leaving neither a clue how many people are allowed to vote nor who is next to propose something. Any idea how to fix that?

I propose Duro change his name to Captain Goatse, because, seriously, where did that guy go?  I haven't seen him in forever, and his name always made me smile.  It was a slightly unnerved smile, but a smile nonetheless.

You don't know soul-crushing bureaucracy until you've run afoul of a small-town criminal justice system.  The countryside is not for civilized men.

I second the Captain Goatse proposal, under the amendment that it be a community use account, for the purpose of holding court on issues.

Abstain on the Captain Issue.

Proposal:
3. Voting Rules:
(a)A proposal is considered at vote as soon as it is posted on the board. The proposal will remain at vote until 24 hours as past.
(b)Valid votes for a proposal is, For, Against, and Abstain.
(c)For a proposal to be adopted, it must receive 50%+1 vote For the Proposal.
(d)The moderator must abstain from voting at all times, in order to avoid conflicts of interests.

EDIT: Orginally, the proposal was merely "The moderator must abstain from voting at all times, in order to avoid conflicts of interests.", but I decided I might as well expand it to be a total "Voting reform".

I strongly resist Servant Corps' proposal, and make a counter-proposal.

Proposal:  The moderator must vote on all proposals in divisive and self-contradictory ways, attempting to fulfill a goal decided in a separate vote.

Yeah, No Proposal
I vote a resounding no on Armok's proposal, on the grounds that Tacticus is dumb and should die in a fire.

Filibuster time bitches.

I vote NONONONONO on Armok's BIGSTOOPID proposal, and NO on Dwarfaholic's proposal, because he voted no for the Captain Goatse proposal.

I vote YES on everything else.

Proposal:  All current issues are put in the OP with the number of Yeses and Noes, as such.
Code: [Select]
Blah blah blah rules

Proposals:

Name Duro Captain Goatse:  Ayes(9001)/Nays(-5)

I vote Nay on The First Post of Elevation to Moderator- title- hood.

I vote Yes on Ctulhu's proposal, even though Ctulhu is a fool for not voting Yes on my proposal.

The First Proposal of Cthulhu's Great Foolishness:

I propose that Cthulhu be treated as a fool, and that his vote not count. He can still make proposals, though.
