The Great Dwarven Menace: Goldfish?
« on: November 02, 2008, 03:37:17 pm »

So, I was doing some reading on the terror of the seas, the Dreaded Carp.

To summerize the article, Carp is a species of fish, not a specific fish in particular.   For example, a common goldfish is a smaller variety of Carp.

So yes, your dwarves, are being eaten alive, by goldfish.

Congratulations, have a cookie.

As a side note, Carp are actually evil, destroying habitats and wreaking havoc on the egosystem, waging war against the majestic Duck.   Those bastards!

I feel a Weird Al Moment coming on.  ;D

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

...the Daily Mail?! Christ, I hope you don't actually read that shite. It's almost as bad as the Sun. Then again, all tabloids are crap. If it weren't for the fact that they go through so much paper I'd think they were headed up by elves

There are three things I know about dwarves:
1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

4ft? 90lbs? thats nothing...

a sturgeon or musky fish is much scarier...

sturgeons are huge prehistoric fish which can get to about 9ft long and are fresh water

musky are not as big but have more and sharper teeth, they like to rest under docks in fresh water.

i have both in the deep (one of the top deepest freshwater lakes in the world, trout lake in ontario, its small enough that its hard to get the sea worthy diving equipment in to reach the bottom, i imagine they'll find a fair bit of cars and weight down bodies down there, assuming anyone ever bothers to go all the way down there) lake in my area, i refuse to go swimming there now x.x

I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

Most Sturgeon get to about 9 feet long.  Some of the sub-species can grow as big as 18feet.  There's a lake in the Canadian Rockies that has its own 'Lock Ness' Monster.  Most people believe its a giant ass Sturgeon, you'd probably need an oil rig to pull the damn thing out.

Nah, the paparazzi are like goblins; you hate them because they're intrusive, blood-thirsty little fuckers who don't know when enough is enough. The "journalists" writing articles for the papers are like elves because they don't really do anything to directly interfere in your life, you just hate them because of what they are and the bullshit they spew from their mouths.

Is that saracasm?  Because it is an issue.  A cluster of trees in the park of every city ain't gonna make of O2 for the human race to live on.  Then there's all sorts of other issues.  What's gonna keep farm plots capable of actually growing anything?  Where will we get our seafood?

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.

Oh, I didn't see that at first.  Guess it's just my brain trying to fix an error before I see it.  Happened the other day when I read the Bizzaro comic in the paper.  Someone had to point it out.

Meh, in a few years time Yellowstone will blow its load. More Co2 then ever produced by humans in all of history in mere minutes. Plus, we will probably all die then too, so, who's gonna save the earth then?
