Then again we could just have many ☼dwarf bone bolts☼ and when enough migrants are killed, they will stop coming altogether.

Prefrence Below:

Metal Type: Steel

Blocking: Sheild

Sword: Steel Shortsword, Masterwork when you have the time and when its NOT a big problem.

Armour: Steel Plate

Rank: Leader of Dwarves. (Squad Leader)

Like I said, when you have a professional force going, and by then have a real metal opperation up and started, feel free to get all this together. Since hes Military, the least you can do is fulfill the weapon and armour load out when you have the time and material enough to do so.

Other then that, put him on anywork you'd like till then.

Well I set the max pop to 7. I have no idea if this will allow pregnancies, but if no children pop up after the first half dozen years we might have to rethink it. Other than that its plain vanilla.
Here's the first part of the writeup.

The Log of Kate Zasitmush

5th of Granite, 301:

We dug in second we arrived. Moving the mass of food, booze, wood, seeds, and whatever the hell else we brought along. Scintoth was disappointed by our apparent lack of an anvil. Our reluctant leader assured us that we would getting one fresh off of the first caravan, but we will have to work fast to get enough to trade.

28th of Slate 301:

Talk about frustrating, digging has taken us longer than we had expected, our bedrooms are still being dug out and we still have no trade goods ready. We may have to sell off some food for our anvil.

Everyone seems to be getting along well, some better than others. Spring is in the air as couples have started forming. Apparently the talk that Scintoth had with William about the anvil sparked a new romance. I myself have become enamored with Martian. It seems that despite her flirting nature Cookie has not swayed any hearts.

Fun indeed!

2nd of Galena:

Dark gnomes! The beardless freaks. They came for the booze! Scintoth gave chase, but they had left as quickly as they had come. No doubt they will be back. We will have to be ready.

20th of Limestone:

No sooner than we started the Autumn crop rotation did we hear of the arrival of the caravan. While hopes were high we did not receive an anvil. It seems our order was sold to another outpost, so despite our hard work we will have to hold off on the creation of our metalworks. It seems that we have alot of work still to do if we are going to make a proper home to live in.

23rd of Sandstone:

Surprisingly everyone was ordered to start digging out the entirety of the current living area to help construction efforts. Not everyone was happy with it, but we all agreed it for the best.

21st of Moonstone:

Disaster! Scintoth's Iron Warhammer was stolen by a kobold thief! Clearly we will have to further beef up security. On a lighter note the mining operation is going excellently. Our living space is much nicer now. We are starting construction on a public dining hall soon.

14th of Opal:

Our mining operation has found a magma pipe! Using this source of magma we're going to have a meeting as to how we should best exploit this wonderful resource.

------------------------------

And with that it's time for input. How should we use the magma? Designs for obsidian farming and magma smelters that protect from imps, magma men, and what have you? Use as a horrible weapon of mass destruction?

Suggestions and comments from non-fortress members is welcome.

Magma moat, Metal working opperations, use in farming, and such if you will. Though its been a while since I've gone Fortress mode. Tell me, do Magma moats still work out? Anyway, if you mean 'magma flood of double edged sword' I wouldn't. Then again, if it was entirely under control, that might work. Might.

I'm not one to often make a magma flood of doom, but I have been known to make a magma shower entrance. That was from my no-military fortress.

I'm really looking for some nice mini-project to work on or at least prepare for, for the next fortress year, as we have more than enough food and booze for the time being. I've even considered form in place obsidian walls to be smoothed for some luxurious rooms.

If you want something to keep you busy, have everybody, and a I mean EVERYBODY trained, in shifts if needed, in some form of weapon. If were only going on the orriginal seven and dwarves born later, and some goblins happen to slip by, what fun it would be to tell of how they dispatched the gobbo with their bare hands?

Other then that, yeah I suggest you use the Magma as a defence if anything. But it has other uses of course. Like for your metal working opperation. Magma, as far as I know, is the only way to get a mass production going. That and skilled workers and material.

14th of Granite:
Elves have come to trade, when Cookie saw they had a cougar for trade she brought over a few plates of quarry bush leaves buiscuts and traded them for the cougar and some cloth.
We will make some rope from the cloth to make a well that we need.

That is the last entry. The group breached the magma pipe to meet a fire imp, who was primed and ready. We were all slaughtered. It seems every fort I set up for community fortress dies horribly, but it was entertaining to see.

Sorry for the sudden end, hopefully the next one will last more than a year and a half.
