Make a creature huntable?
« on: November 02, 2008, 01:40:11 am »

What tags have to be present/not present to make a creature huntable in Fortress mode?

For example: I unfortunately have a fortress with a very low deer/goat/etc. population. I have a ton of slugmen. If I wanted to have my dwarves hunt the slugmen, what tags would I have to edit?

I've made them butcherable, tameable, all sorts of things, but my hunters still just sit there without a job while slugmen tribe roam the plains.

Is this hardcoded or am I missing something?

EDIT: It's something to do with the ethics, isn't it? Maybe I should just take away the slugmen's intelligence/sentience. Make them into slimy deer.

It's probably a tag along the lines of [CAN_LEARN] or [CAN_SPEAK].  Removing anything of that kind should remove their "sentient" status, allowing them to be hunted.

Yeah, believe it or not, my dorfs didn't want to hunt things that could think and speak.

OR you could go the other way around and alter the dwarf entity file to allow the eating of sentients. I forget what the particular ethics tag is, but you ought to be able to find it on the Wiki.

I thought about that, but I think the solution of letting my dwarves eat unfortunately manshaped creatures was better than having my dwarves cannibalize their kills.

Call me crazy.

What you are looking for is [EAT_SAPIENT_OTHER:ACCEPTABLE] and [EAT_SAPIENT_KILL:ACCEPTABLE].

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!
