Destroying Buildings and Towns?
« on: November 01, 2008, 06:23:04 pm »

So, after deciding that I hated kender so much that I modded them into DF for the express purpose of genocide, I've cleaned the town of Rightsgolds of the filthy furry-footed vermin and would like to salt the earth, so to speak.  (Actually, the problem is that I keep killing every last kender, but whenever I check the legends screen, another single kender keeps moving in, preventing me from truly destroying the town.)

I've tried setting fire to trees beside houses, and throwing burning goods into the houses, but I just can't seem to destroy them.  Furthermore, while I don't really expect the entire town to suddenly turn into ruins after the last living civ member is gone from the area, it would be nice if I could force that to occur.

So, my questions are:

*Is it possible to destroy bulidings in Adventure Mode? Do I need to create enough heat that the building materials catch fire or is it simply not possible?
*Does anything happen after all citizens of a town have been destroyed, or will someone keep moving in until the last kender is slain?
*Do towns turn to ruins post-world generation?

The only way to do this is to get a fortress over that town, abandon it, then reclaim it.  Dwarves have a special way of making walls that makes them temperature proof.

And this is how tinned food was invented.
Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

I suggest you turn every kender town into a giant crater.

You catch my drift?

I remember smacking someone's kender character over the head for pissing me off when i was invited to try role playing with them.
I got banned from the site when i followed that up by slicing their throat and devouring their corpse.

What'd they expect, dances through fields of flowers and matching 'best friends for ever' robes from a reanimated lawyer?

The best I've ever done is reduce humans towns down to a + sign on the world map. Are they supposed to turn into ruins if you kill every last person in there? It could be that I've simply never managed to kill the last couple people, it's hell trying to hunt them down.

Hmm... perhaps I shall, though it lacks the personal touch of stabbing every kender I can find in the face, piling their corpses between a few trees, then burning everything to ash.

I did manage to turn one of the towns into a squiggly "u", which I believe means "ruins", but I'm still trying to finish off the stragglers.  It seems there are at least two fully-stocked shops, which implies the shopkeepers are alive somewhere, and those people I thought kept moving in were actually just out on patrol during my rampage and finally return after I've moved on.

Export legends and check the individual towns to see their unit lists to check if there are survivors.

Success!  I found the straggling survivors and slew them.  I have now reduced two towns to zero populace, and both of their icons on the map have turned to ruins.  Delicious.

91: Umcoslico, "Homewandered", a town
Owner: The Fellowship of Pride, kenders
Parent Civ: The Flags of Confidence, kenders
(no inhabitants)

101: Nemenabli, "Rightsgolds", a town
   Owner: The Dignified Silver, kenders
Parent Civ: The Flags of Confidence, kenders
(no inhabitants)

They will all burn!

I've had a lot of problems getting towns properly killed... Is it just a matter of persistanty hunting around the town, or is there something more to it? My single colony of elves cannot enact their bloody vengance on the outside world without some properly recognized massacres.

On a side note, now that I know what they are, I hate Kender too.

Argh, I've been running about this town for ages. It's still a + sign and I can't get it lower. How do you export legends? Do I have to settle somewhere and come back?

One of many reasons I stopped playing D&D: Bullshit mary-sue characters.

Also, magic and rule bullshit.

"I'm going to be a half-orc Macguyver. I'm probably going to get killed in the midst of some fuck-awesome swashbucklery. FEAR THE ACES UP MY SLEEVE, KRAKEN!"

"2 wands of Obscure Spell, 2d6 DEX damage with no save. Kraken is paralyzed. GG."

You guys are just jealous of Kenders because they always manage to steal the spotlight from the boring uni-dimensional musclebound barbarians :-P

Alright! I got it to work. I've reduced an entire civilization to ruins and killed every last being. Didn't die, (even though I dodged/blocked/ate four different iron bolts in a tavern at one point) and came out of it up several pieces of Masterwork armor too. Seems like at the first sign of the human stampede in their bar, every available man, woman and child responds and gathers up in the mayor's house where they all mill about like fish in a barrel.

But oh god, the Hippos. Some of these towns I'd already half-massacred a few seasons ago so they were down on able-bodied soldiers. But most of the towns and cities were built along this horrible hippo infested river. Half the time in those pre-visited towns, I'd trot in and it'd be under Hippo/Milkfish attack (somehow, villagers kept landing in the water where they'd be accosted by milkfish) and there wouldn't be enough NPC army to stop them. There was some poor kid in a river who somehow didn't drown and kept chewing up Milkfish, but the Hippos were beasts. Running around killing indiscriminately like elephants of old. At least twice, I could not find the last guy in town, but the Hippos reared out of the water to settle old grievances and hunted them down for me.

Couldn't have accomplished this without em.  :-\
