DECEMBER 31 UPDATE:
Hello everyone. It's been a hectic past few weeks yet I believe I finally have been able to update things for better or for worse. We've had an entertaining set of adventures, and the game is speeding up in terms of raw combat awesomeness.
Current Roster
Anticheese: Urist the Dwarf Alchemist and Expedition Leader, with subspecialties in farming, first aid, and cooking. Wields a crossbow. A legendary Alchemist.
Alexor: Alexor the Dwarf Miner/underground architect. Armed with a giant pick, he is a fearsome fighter.
fighting from his lecherous steed Olon. Presumptive Sheriff of Castleforge.
Hieda_no_Akyu: Elisa the Elf Gadgeteer, skilled with bow and dagger. Exiled for murder.
Istrian: Ulthuad, Dwarf Priest of Imal. A great healer, psychologist, and lovable if a bit hard on hearing.
Mulch: Mulch the Dwarf Mad Butcher/Chef armed with a cleaver and numerous butcher knifes. Owns a cat that named Guilliame Tirel, who wears a Napoleon hat.
Nemo: Utes Klashkinov, Russian-accented Goblin siegeworker. Seeks to build the perfect crossbow.
Penguinofhonor: Niugnep, the dense yet lovable Troll martial artist with a heart of gold.
SombreroChapeau: Maraca the Mad, an aluminum Sombrero-wearing Elf that believes trees are mind-controlling his fellow Elfs and his aluminum Sombrero will keep him save from the mindcontrol waves. Wields a great axe.
Turgid: Keth the Human Ranger; with a trusty steed, he patrols the wilderness, hunting down and executing enemies with his composite bow.
UssDefiant: Sibrek the Dwarf mobster mason. Tends to attract the wrong types. Don't double cross him or you'll be sleepin' with the carp. Crafting obsidian shoes is one of his many commonly requested jobs.
Yougiedeggs: Kadol the Dwarf Hammerer/Weaponsmith. Good-hearted if somewhat slow. His current favorite book is "Barbarian's First ABCs"
Obituaries: The dead will be honored...or the butt of many jokes.
Penguinofhonor: Penguin The Kobold, executed by Anticheese for almost killing the party with a drowning trap. His corpse is now The Penguin Processor.
CptMayday: Datan the lecherous Dwarf Rogue and former member of the Mountainkeep Fortress Guard. Was mortally wounded in combat by assassins. His ghost lives on in a warhammer.

6th of Granite: Reached Mountainkeep; First Encounter with Kobolds. The kobolds were defeated and the remainder fled further into the caves. The party set camp in the first room they fought the kobolds in, while clearing the cave out in a manner that the wagons could be driven inward.

7th of Granite: Finished up cleansing the caves, and slay the Kobold Chieftan. Rescued and recruit Penguin the Kobold, and rescue several merchants and a liason to the Human kingdom of Helvetica to the east. They receive a mandate from the ghost of the former fortress, Castleforge, to find his body and build a proper tomb for it.

8th of Granite: General Workday. Alexor strikes gold and iron, while Elisa builds an elevator to the lower areas of the fortress. Urist does farming and alchemy, while Kadol and Sibrek plan an improvised anvil.

9th of Granite: Having Penguin probe, they realize the lower area serves as a hideout for an Otaku Minotaur. They slay it and cleanse its lair of a foul infestation of pocky and doujin comics. Afterwards they build a rope ladder to the lair below. The party encountered a giant cave spider and defeat it with minimal effort, zerging it. Penguin attempts to loot the king, and is smited by the king's Ghost. Penguin later almost killed the party by destroying a lever needed to reverse a drowning trap and Urist snaps, picking up the kobold and carrying him off to the butchery shop to execute. This triggers a fey mood in Urist whom begins making material demands, among such components including Penguin's corpse.

16th of Granite: Nothing out of the ordinary so far. A week has fast-fowarded, crops are growing, Elisa has built a Rubik's Cube and Alexor has mined out a tetrahedrite vein and dug out stairs to the lower levels, speeding up party efficiency. The party struck magma and warded off two weak Fire Imps.

Character Creation Rules
This game is being run using GURPS 4th edition. If you don't have 4th edition, GURPS Lite can be downloaded at
http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/lite. You miss out on advantages, yet this will help you learn the system to a limited extent while a friendly team of gamers is out there to help you flesh out your character. If you have 3rd edition, there were point modifications so best to read Lite as well; fortunately most of the advantages from Compendium are still around, albeit with more modification.
You have 100 points with which to build a character; if you wish, you can spend 25 of those points to be a Dwarf or an Elf. Their templates are in the Template spoiler tag.
You can take up to 40 points in disadvantages, and 5 in quirks. Note that excessively damaging disadvantages or those viewed as counterproductive to the overall game (e.g. wanting to eat your teammates) may be vetoed, depending on the perceived severity.
One cannot take wealth/Status or Reputation as an advantage or disadvantage; these are kept track of independently of the character based solely on their actions. Characters start with the equivalent of $2000 dollars, with no employment and no cost of living. Wealth is solely for equipping your character...however, 400 of your dollars go into a "community chest" for buying group items like seeds, the party wagon, etc; for those coming into the fortress after the initial cleansing, it represents an initial citizenship fee that goes into the fortress treasury. Money roughly translates to 10$= a copper coin, 50$=a silver coin, and 100$= a gold coin.
Game is Tech-level 3+1 (e.g. Medieval technology with special advances in hydrotech); blackpowder has been discovered yet no practical applications have been discovered yet. Dwarf booze is highly explosive however, and can be used to comical effect. Dependong on player or NPC actions, the TL will eventually upgrade due to the never-ending arms race.
I am GM-overwriting some of the advantages. Most notably, Magery/Magic is not allowed at character creation although it may be learnable after the proper quests; if you want an exotic advantage or disadvantage, such as increased DR, contact me with a rationale for it. Alchemy and a modified version of the 25 pt version of Gadgeteering where you can quick-gadget technology but based on non-gadgeteering modifiers.
I am probably going to do some editing to the skills, to keep things streamlined and to mimic the skills in Dwarf Fortress we've come to know and love. I.e. I may eventually merge smallsword, shortsword, and longsword into "Sword User" and have specific benefits such as the parry benefit of smallsword buyable for a small number of points. This would allow some degree of flexibility in character customization. On the other hand, I might not do this because the ability to default skills to other skills helps represent the ability for skill overlap between multiple weapon types (i.e. if you know the smallsword, learning the shortsword should be correspondingly easier). The only consolidations I'm seriously considering are consolidating [Applied Mathematics, Mechanics, Machinist, and Engineering(Clockwork)]->Mechanics, and [Brawling, Wrestling, Karate, Judo, Sumo, Boxing]->(Unarmed!), with Unarmed being able to buy perks/advantages to represent its assorted abilities (i.e. Judo Throw is a technique that defaults as Unarmed-Blah, etc). The only one of those I'm REALLY interested in calvinballing is the Unarmed one just because it would allow more flexibility (I.e. degree of improvised weapons allowed vs. martial art defense bonuses vs. damage bonuses...fear the Fanged Kobold Monk with Chomp-Fu!).
I'm also interested in allowing Modifiers on Skills to represent unique items like a Helm of Superior Swordsmanship, or to represent Necromantic Spells like Steal Skill. This is partially because I disapprove of the tree-progression system in GURPS Magic and believe that for point-balance it would probably be best to buy spells as Powers with the Magical Modifier.
Templates:
I miscalculated the cost of Martial Trance (I.e. treating the corresponding disadvantage as its own disadvantage that only activates when the advantage is on, rather than a limitor to the advantage) and am going to see if I can balance Strange Mood with it in order to keep base point cost fair. Otherwise, I may end up giving extra points to the nondwarfs to compensate. Additionally, I may drop strength for the Elf and Kobold (i.e. St 8 for a Sm-2 creature is a generous amount especially since weight is derived from St), and balance it out with more stuff. The World of Destruction
The game will start off in a tavern in the outskirts of Mountainkeep, where everyone discusses their general plans for where to embark.
The main factions are as follows:
Banners of Ruling: The Dwarf Empire, consisting of numerous mountainkeeps, linked by underground river, and overland chariot patrol routes.
Altoasha: To the far northeast, Altoasha, the desert wonders, is a series of independent cities and roaming tribesmen. Their light cavalry is the envy of the civilized world.
Gobla-Khanate: Directly north to the Banners of Ruling is the Gobla-khanate, consisting of several villages under the command of several obsidian towers.
The New Empire: To the far west, this human kingdom used to own most the known world before it suffered a magic cataclysm. To this day, their heavy cavalry and mastery of Alchemical fire is put to use fighting the elves.
Laetheran Elves: To the southeast, this elf kingdom is a constant thorn against the Banners of Ruling. Their Unicorn Knights are legendary for their combat prowess, and their foot-archers feared by all. They generally can call upon the aid of fairies and pixies and other such creatures
Aquitania: Directly to the east of the Laetheran Kingdom, this human kingdom is currently subjugated to them. They fight with small numbers of mounted knights, and larger number of peasant levies.
Helvetica: A hill kingdom to the east of the Banners of Ruling, which relies on numerous rivers in order to trade with other nations. Their river galleys are among their deadliest weapons, their infantry trained to exacting professionalism.
Fimathama: The Elf kingdom directly to the north of The New Empire, they are noted for their berserk warriors and melee savagery, as well as their superior composite bows. They can call upon the aid of Satyrs and Centaurs, and the occasional Minotaur.
Emeseyece: An elf kingdom to the south of the New Empire, noted for its freezing temperatures and Elves savage even by Elven standards. They additionally have trained such creatures as Frostwolves and Yetis to assist them in protecting their homelands. Unlike other elves, these ones happily use what precious obsidian they can find from volcanic geysers.
