Only in Dwarf Fortress would you try to catch a mermaid to butcher her and make trophies out of her bones

Yeah, plants growing on engraved tiles will deface the engravings. Which can be really bad if you have a legendary engraver with maxed stats.

Nah, it's much more fun just to engrave floors anyway no matter what could happen to them!  If you end up getting a tantrum or even a tantrum spiral, well, that's what makes it so fun! >:D

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

Poor Degel. Rub some golden salve in there, that should relieve the pain

The solution: NEVER ENGRAVE ON FLOORS.

The only spot that I had engraved was my nobles quarters. There had been a piping accident some time earlier and there was mud left over.
Also Degel is fine. Since the unhappiness caused by the defacement of a masterpiece is lessened if they have lots of masterpieces.

Yep, I can imagine the thoughts:

Hey look, that sapling looks about three years old, I'd better drive over it before it grows into a full-grown tree... *crack*

My brewer went crazy because he was attacked by a possessed guy, then tantrum, and what I know, is that 1/3 of the originals hung out in one spot like, five years.
