I think it involves alchemy, not sure about the key presses.

Didn't know you could do that either. But I think it's in the 'y' menu (the one that lists all possible actions, outside your skills - possibly 'u' instead?) and then probably Sip or Taste or something similar to that.

Also - Kobold Paladins. Great fun for all concerned? Sure was for me   :D

Does anyone know how to use fountains?  The best I can do is make the game crash by toying with them too much (one of the 'y'use commands likes to bug out on fountains).  Everything else has no effect.  Ever.  On any fountain.  Even in previous versions.

If you're trying to dip an item into a fountain, it won't have any effect unless the thing's already got an enchantment on it.  Then it will either ruin it or make it better.

Press 'q' while standing on it. I wouldn't advise it though, nothing good ever comes from drinking from a fountain you find in a Goblin's dungeon.

I suspect a halfling with 22 base luck (plus inherent bonuses, but those are damned hard to get for luck) would get some pretty good fountain rolls.

The results of drinking from fountains are influenced by your luck score. You can get a bless, restore fatigue, polymorph into something, release snakes, find a ring etc.
Better don't try this with low luck, though.

Yes, there is a small chance of getting a beneficial effect.  However, when weighed against the scores of very bad events, the one-in-twenty chance of getting blessed just doesn't justify the risk.

If you are likely to die from poison, disease or a cursed item (and have already drunk all your unidentified potions, read all your scrolls and don't have time or money to buy a potion from the merchant or charisma and diplomacy to request a spell from a neutral NPC) then drinking from a fountain is absolutely reasonable no matter the luck score.(A reasonable chance to avoid nearly certain death vs. a substantial chance to quickly resolve in death an already hopeless situation)

Well, since I found Incursion thanks to this thread and it looks like the only currently active Incursion discussion forum thread on the internet - here are some tips for melee-oriented characters.

Do not follow Khasrach unless you are immune to fear (or immune to traps and neutral to undead). Bone delvers WILL fright you on your 1 or 2 level and you will be banished to deeper levels and even more scary monsters.

Do not follow Immotian unless your saving throw against disease is very high.(high Fortitude save with bonuses vs. disease is in general somewhat easier to achieve for a melee class then an equally high Will save with bonuses against fear;also high armour tends to completely block attacks that can disease)

Devouring ability (orc's main advantage) comes along very poorly with Lawful gods or Mara. Eating things that are possibly somewhat sapient becomes risky. Have you already memorized all names of fantastic sapient creatures in this game?  :(

Use your potions of healing before and after the combat - they are hazardous IN combat (attacks of opportunity + loosing lots of time).

Amulet of undead warding is currently my favourite magic item because of damn incorporeal undead (your armour is usually completely worthless against them). Why have e.g. protection against necromantic damage when you can pick your fights?

@ earthquake, I've found than archery focused rangers do well on the intrinsic luck front. Probably due to high crit rates and high weapons speeds.

Currently trying to get a kobold to live long enough to make Underdark Warrior.
This would probably be quite a bit easier without trying to incoporate this into my spiked-chain-weilding Sabinite character, since it requires both good stats and two feats, one off which has, itself, two prerequisites.  Still, never mind.  Although it irks me to have to set up the character so meticulously towards that end, I might someday manage it; probably around level 5 as at least two rogue levels are required.  Possibly 6 to get the last feat, which is a shame because none of my characters have so far lived that long.

In fact, come to think of it, this might work better with one of my monks... I tend to create them with high wisdom and blindfight anyway. Maybe I should change tack.  I've been thinking of starting a monk character and trying to convert in-game to a non-standard monastic deity, perhaps I can combine the goals.

The Underdark warriors seem like they're just general "boost" classes...  Some nice bonus feats and skill boosts, but nothing really unique.  I pick the specialist characters that have unique benefits, or at least really cool ones.

Take the Twilight Huntsman, for instance.  At the seventh Huntsman level, they are given the ability to "phase" in and out of the ethereal realm at will.  I'm never going to get high enough in levels to get that, but it's still damned awesome.

Alienists have some really awesome abilities, but they're bugged to hell at the moment so that's a moot point.

Shadowdancers get access to shadow "pets", along with an innate ability to shadow step at will.

Blackguards are basically anti-paladins, and get several paladin-esque abilities that are tweaked to better suit the "dark side".

Earthsingers get some seriously cool earth-related abilities, but their requirements are too high for the current level cap.  You can't get the required skills before you're too high of a level to access the earthsinger's special goodies.

The tattoo mystic, of course, gets some nice tattoos.  Life-leeching, fire-blasting, brachiation-providing, poison-inducing tattoos.

The assassin gets death-effect sneak attacks.  Damn straight.

So I'd rather waste my time going for one of those than waste my time going for something else.  Xavias-worshiping loremasters can be fun, but that's mostly just for making sunrods with alchemy and then feeling really good about it.

I had a Lizardman Monk/Tattoo Mystic. I almost won, but died to something stupid on the second to last level. (Tried to quell a Lizard, pissed off the Multitude, Major Demons sent at me, GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER.)

I'm not very good at roguelikes, I seem to always try to kill every monster I see, even when I remind myself that this is not necessary or a good idea.  I also have this overpowering, catlike urge to try every single magic item I get.

Guilty! But I'm trying to learn not to equip them until I get a "feeling" if they're good or bad.
