Of bridges, floodgates and sports
« on: November 01, 2008, 05:40:09 am »

1. Does a raised bridge stop water? Can it be destroyed by trolls and\or megabeasts?
2. Can floodgates be destroyed by trolls?
3. Can captured goblins be equipped with different weapons?

Thanks.

In my experience, yes, no(if you don't try to drop it on a demon) and no
I think it might be possible if you strip them of their weapons, leave something they can use in a room and cagetrap the exit and hope they pick it up.

A raised bridge counts as a wall, so yes it can stop water and it can't be destroyed by creatures (except for HFS). Floodgates can be destroyed by creatures and I have no idea if goblins pick up weapons from of the ground.

Creatures can (and will) destroy your raised bridge.  Similarly (and unfortunately, for one of my fortresses) magma will melt one, unlike the wooden walls the bridge was right next to.

Also, you can manufacture vomit at a smelter.  Subsequently removing the smelter spews vomit over a surprising area.

Thanks for the replies.

So then, if bridges and floodgates are breakable, how would I go about making a troll\megabeast proof drowning chamber?

Also, how long do trolls take to break down doors and floodgates? (is it effected by the material?) Say, long enough for the bridge masquerading as the floor to go 'poof'?

Make it out of walls, with the floodgates for filling it with water out of the creature's reach. Deconstruct the walls to retrieve the corpse. Enemies (even building destroyers) don't take down constructions.
