I have a couple. None very useful, however the names are quite awesome...

First we have FOOTORGANS the jet millstone menacing with spikes of jet...


Then we have SINGEDNOBLE, a ring depicting the election of the queen...


Then we have... BROKENFONDLED THE JOYOUS HOLE... the larch scepter... the other artifact on there, THE GUILTY JEWEL was created by the guy's only daugther....


DREAMEDPATTERNS the bauxite coffin... kinda cool. Can use it in a magma tomb.


And finally, and actual useful artifact. Can't wait to get one of my Marksdorfs to use this. Somre are already Master/Grand Master Marksdorfs so it shouldn't take too long... Seems to be the Dorf equivalent of a gold plated AK.

Got something kind of cool earlier, though it's not worth much:

Elikamnek, "The Single Tribute", a basalt scepter.
This is a basalt scepter. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is studded with tin and encircled with bands of mussel shell, pig tail fiber, and plume agate. This object is adorned with hanging rings of basalt and wax opal and menaces with spikes of brass. On the item is an image of dwarves in cat bone. The dwarves are laboring. The artwork relates to the completion of The Stable Bridge as a part of The Road of Attics connecting Tradedstones and Trampledgild by the Key of Scribing of The Armor of Mortifying in 95.

Best ever is a hard choice, but each of my choices come from my first really successful fortress. Of the 83 artifacts produced over the 48 years, I'd narrow it down to...

4th:
Windyfly: a Golden chain Leggings worth 211,200

Mostly for humorous appearance. I imagine them less like chain mail and more like shiny parachute pants. I have (unsuccessfully so far) tried to pair them with a hammerdwarf so that I could create MC Hammerdwarf.

3rd:
Choppedfuture the Familial Bitterness an Aluminum anvil worth 580,800

A very useful anvil! I was much more settled by this point, having survived a number of sieges and having a decent military and numerous traps. Still, the most expensive item produced. Popular choice for images to engrave on later artifacts.

A close 2nd:
Foughtaces the Misty Gulf a Zinc anvil worth 27,600

This was the first artifact my fortress ever produced, and did so in the first year or so I think. It was extremely useful to have a second anvil so early on and I credit it as one of the biggest items that led to the success of my fortress.

But no, the best artifact I have ever had come from my fortress would have to be this one, which came in just a handful of artifacts after the Zinc anvil, but before the golden leggings:

1st:
The Birds of Diversion a Platinum Left Gauntlet worth 199,200

It is encrusted with Brown Zircon, Studded with Platinum decorated with fox leather and goblin bone and encircled with bands of turtle bone and Gabbro. This object menaces with spikes of Platinum, fox leather, and Gabbro.

Shortly after it's creation, it was claimed by a Dwarf who would become my greatest champion: Medtob Workpowers The Blameless Purge of Celebration. Wielding his dual swords, and wearing his Platinum left Gauntlet, he has slaughtered 251 people: Goblins, Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and Inira Fireysparks the Sweltering Diamond of Jewels the Dragon. Oh, and one horse.

It's covered in blood, vomit, human blood spatterings, goblin blood, horse blood spatterings, mud, and kobold blood spatterings.

I was curious to see what would happen if I left my fortress on autopilot for a while, so I savescummed and then let it run. Suddenly my mason was seized by a strange mood, grabbed obsidian and native gold, and produced:

Tellistilush, "The Infallible Carnage", a obsidian throne.
This is a obsidian throne. All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of native gold. This object menaces with spikes of obsidian.

  That name... I think I'm scared now.

Rädukothlest, "Bitterscorches," a raw adamantine mechanisms.

This is a raw adamantine mechanisms. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encrusted with light yellow diamond, studded with raw adamantine and encircled with bands of giant cave spider silk. This object menaces with spikes of raw adamantine, giant bat leather and pig tail fiber. On the item is an image of dwarves in adamantine. The dwarves are laboring. The artwork relates to the founding of Boardedlance by The Matched Lens of The Attic of Sliding in the early spring of 1051.

Basic Value: 1908000*

Worth more than twice the rest of the fort. Definitely going to get used in the future noble smelter. The name even fits, too!

When an Axelord wields it enemies sh** their pants. So the name fits beautifully.

This is a platinum bresatplate all craftsdwarfship. is of the highest quality. it is studded with platinum and decorated with mango wood. this object menace with spikes of frost crystal (i'm using civilization forge mod) on the item is an image of square in elephant bone.      value: 175200 DB     weight: 47 Urist

edit: my second armorer just created vumsharrithlut "gloomwaxed" a gold round shield.

This is a gold round shield. all craftdwarship is of the highest quality. It is encrusted with rhodolite and kimberlite. studded with gold and encircled with bands of cave spider silk. this object menace with spikes of cave spider silk(!!).    value: 160800 DB      weight: 25 Urist



I'm glad they choosed the heaviest metals for making armors...

My favorite was a goblin bone chain that was named "CultWitnessed" done by once of the fey children of the fort. Another one went on to make a bed out of trout bone, though the name escapes me.

The fort is now long gone, but my favorite artifact ever created was a bed made of bituminous coal, encrusted with bituminous coal, and circled with bands of lignite.  I put it in a noble's room, and was planning to get a magma-fall in the same room before my fort crumbled .

The first fort in my current genned world, I named a random dorf (Military I think) MadJax. About 4 years later he creates FortressPeaced, and artifact blue garnet window. Nothing encrusted, and no menacing spikes or anything... just a named blue garnet window, worth about 1000. Hated him for it. That fort crumbled to 3 FB's attacking in one go.

After faffing about in adventurer mode, and several messed up forts, I get to set up another fort that actually worked and I continued. It got to the point every engraving was of this bloody window, several artifacts had an image of this effing window in them. Now, 50 years and 4 forts after the artifact was created, it seems to have entered legend as everything is cranked out with an image of this bloody blue window. (Wouldn't mind, but one of my forts had a legendarily awesome Adamantine Short Sword named BastardWarriors of Peace. Gave it to my militia commander, who scored over 30 kills with it, my adventurer had it and added another 80+ kills to it's list before it was lost in another of my old forts and a deadly FB. This is a tale of an epically badass weapon, worthy of song and legend, but my dorfs prefer cheese and a sodding window.)

there seem to still be some pretty crazy things going on in the latest versions. ive had 2 artifacts made by bonecarvers which came out as made of iron afterwards. as in, the dwarf grabs 3 goat bones, some horse bones, leather and copper bars, and makes an iron figurine decorated with horse bones, menacing with spikes of leather and with hanging rings of copper. and becomes a legendary bonecarver. and i havent even discovered or smelted iron yet.

to mr blue gem window appears everywhere - im pretty sure that dwarves make engravings or images of things that happened in the local region. which is why embarking on a big reagion most often gives you more interesting legends engravings. so, forts created in the same region as the blue gem window will get pictures of it. if you want images of your adamantium short sword, you can try embarking in the same region as it. i get lots of pictures of my steel short sword in my current fort, as it borders on the same forest my last fort was on even though they are a million miles from each other. its called the forest of machines, and i also get a lot of epic engravings of a metallicish forest titan comitting genocide against the elves. which is awesome.
