I've never actually located adimantine. it makes me sad. i wish i could get reveal to work.

make it where your miner mines the entire bottom level, and then remove it before he litterly mines it, then try the reveal tool, though I never use the reveal tool because it stops me from making armor out of Adamantine, magma buildings, and some other stuff
That's why you make a copy of the game and use the reveal tool on the copy so you get a general idea. (And then export them and use Dwarf Fortress's compress bitmap tool to make the pictures more manageable.)

Alternatively, turn it into a map and upload it onto the map website. Either way, you get the reveal without messing up your actual game.

lol since I haven't been playing that long, my best one is... wait for it... a barrel. At least the dwarf is a legendary carpenter now. He makes the best barrels. Now and then he makes a nice bin too.

This is far from my best artifact (Which is still the one I posted quite a few pages ago) as it's only work 20k or so but I thought it was damn cool, never had one like it made before so I had to post it.

Your civ is called the disemboweled treaty... sounds like how the elves attempts at "diplomacy" usually go!

I've had two particularly memorable artifacts.

The first was simply enough a suit of platinum armor. I mean, that's nothing special, by any means, but the fact that it was my first game of DF and the first artifact I ever succeeded in getting made counts for a lot.

The most recent was an iron spear. Now that's not particularly impressive all by its lonesome... But it had a picture of an elf getting eaten by an ALLIGATOR on it in some wood or another. This picture was on everything in my fortress, so I can only assume it is comparable to a painting of the Crucifixion in our world. And now it'll kill many a goblin too!

My history of artifacts isn't long, but I just got this statue after I killed my first dragon. It's name is also quite appropriate since my fortress is known for it's quite extensiv tomb complex. Worth 113000.

I've never had artifact stolen so I'm not sure, is it still in the artifact list you can pull up with 'l'?

This is far from the most interesting artifact, but I find it awesome in a few ways:

1. This artifact was made by an immigrant to my 'fortress' (read: muddy hole in the ground) shortly after I had breached the aquifer. At this point I have no dining room, no living quarters, a very small farm, haven't managed to trade successfully with a caravan yet, and my main industry is in pump components. I have just enough food to prevent starvation, and half my dwarfs are pump operators. Also for about 2 months my entire 'fortress' was filled with water after some bad planning with the aquifer pumping (hence the mud).

2. This artifact has a single image of itself on it, in the correct material. This is the artifact I've produced which has such an image.

==== Twinkledsplit the Confining Dale, a alder scepter. == 6000* ====

This is a alder scepter. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encrusted with chalk. This object menaces with spikes of maple. On the item is an image of Twinkledsplit the Confining Dale the alder scepter in alder.

========

At least now I know what NOT to do when trying to get through an aquifer.

Mastertrapped the adamantine axe.
It menaced with spikes of adamantine, was adorned with hanging rings of adamantine, was encircled with bands of adamantine. Need to find that pic i had.

Edit:Oh, and it had about two or three pages worth of engravings on it.

Remember this guy? I found the screenshot i had.

Turns out it self-referenced three times.

1) Embark on a map with HFS. You can find it with the site finder, under "other stuff"
2) Dig out the bottom level of the map.
3) Have Fun.

Anyway, I just got my first artifact weapon. Dude who made it likes pig iron. Why can't he like something cool like black bronze?

Oh, and it was a possession, too. So no Legendary Weaponsmith. All three moods in this fort so far have been possessions... I'm contemplating turning him into a full-time smelter and raising another dwarf up as a weaponsmith.

Lost the save, but once had a stone mug named 'The Full Drinks'.
I'm guessing it was a magic mug eternally full of beer or something. Awesome.

The next artifact had an image of that mug on it. The artifact was called 'The Evaporated Beer'.
Not cool.

True, but at a certain velocity the resulting explosion expels invader-bits at fatal speeds. You don't want to be dropping trogdolyte-shaped shrapnel bombs into your boneworks.
Only in Dwarf Fortress...

Hardly the most powerful or expensive artifact, but I found it pretty cool.

maybe he was being really smart, like fill said artifact barrel with fire imp tallow, push down hill towards attackers and you have a bomb that is reuasble and doesn't destroy the container?  Also you could go Donkey Kong and then it's a weapon.

The problem with that idea is that bombs, unless specially designed to be shaped charges--which a barrel is not--need to be able to propagate their force omnidirectionally. That's why they work the way they do, and often bombs of the nature you're speaking of are designed specifically to destroy the container in a way that it produces deadly shrapnel, amplifying the effect.

What would result from what you're suggesting is fire imp tallow bursting out in one, maybe two directions from the barrel, the odds of that direction being one that faces the enemy being very low. More to the point, because the barrel is not designed to shape the charge properly, it'll probably just absorb most of the force instead and prevent the tallow from bursting out too far.

While using fire imp tallow as a form of napalm is an intriguing idea, in the manner you suggest it just won't work.
